Looking to ride the Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? We share our first impressions from the previews, covering the queue details and the new onboard music.

Alright, Muppet fans. The moment we’ve been hyping since November 2024 is finally here. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opened its doors to Annual Passholders on May 21, 2026, five full days before the general public gets to enjoy it on it official opening day, May 26. We secured virtual queue boarding groups on both preview days, rode it twice, walked the queue with fresh eyes each time, and have emerged with notebooks full of details. However, we have a little bit of a sore neck from screaming “WOCKA WOCKA” at 60 mph in the dark. Of course, it could be the ride restraints from that second ride.

Whether you’re heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the grand opening of Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or counting down the days on your Walt Disney World calendar, this guide will help. Things can change, but based on two visits…we have some thoughts.

The Backstory: How We Got Here

In November 2024, Walt Disney World announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios would be re-themed to feature The Muppets, while retaining the attraction’s name, with a scheduled summer 2026 opening. That announcement came alongside the news that the Muppet*Vision 3D would be closing. Muppet*Vision 3D shut down in June 2025 to clear space for a new Monsters, Inc. land. For longtime Hollywood Studios fans, it was a lot to process in a short theme park news cycle..

In preparation for the re-theme, the Aerosmith pre-show was removed from the attraction in December 2025, with the Aerosmith iteration closing on March 2, 2026. By the next morning, all remnants of the word “Aerosmith” had been scrubbed from public view. A 27-year era, gone overnight.

Walt Disney World then spent the spring rolling out details in stages. On April 13, 2026, the full soundtrack was announced, with each song performed by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The opening date of May 26, 2026 was confirmed on April 16, 2026.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Queue: A Muppet Museum You’ll Want to Slow Down For

Here’s something we want to be very clear about before you arrive: do not rush through this queue. We’ve seen guests at previews barrel through at full speed, and they’re absolutely leaving the best part of the experience on the table. However, if you decide to stop admire and take photos, please move out of the way of others in the queue. During previews, we encountered people stopped in the queue blocking the path…please do not be those people!

The ride’s new storyline follows Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips of the Electric Mayhem as they prepare to headline their biggest Hollywood concert ever. G-Force Records, where the ride takes place, has come under new management by The Muppets with help from Scooter’s uncle J.P. Grosse, guests receive a VIP tour of the recording studio. That framing gives the entire queue a purpose. Like the previous version, you’re not just waiting; you’re backstage.

Room 1: The Gallery Case (Curated by Yolanda the Rat)

The first room guests enter is a gallery case lovingly curated by Yolanda the Rat, loaded with Muppets history. Miss Piggy is celebrated with one of her iconic looks, a pink and green polka dot dress, and a matching hat. Kermit’s original banjo from “The Rainbow Connection” was recently donated to the Walt Disney Archives. Imagineers recreated it for display since the original is now safely tucked away.

The guitars played by members of the Electric Mayhem that are featured in the gallery actually date back to The Muppet Show itself. This isn’t just prop dressing. This is Muppet history behind glass.

The Alley Queue: Where the Easter Egg Density Explodes

Digital display in an elevator showing a man in a yellow shirt and blue jacket with colorful stuffed animals around him; a LIVE badge visible on the screen.

Throughout the entire experience, you’ll find Easter eggs to iconic Muppet movies, Muppet*Vision, and even the Aerosmith version of the attraction. Still, the alley is where things get wonderfully chaotic.

Details include laundry featuring Fozzie Bear’s bow tie and Electric Mayhem merchandise, and a “Pop Off” billboard referencing The Muppet Movie. In the Muppet Labs Automotive Division, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker showcase some memorable vehicles, including the Interpol Car from Muppets Most Wanted and the Muppet Mobile Lab, which has appeared in multiple Disney parks worldwide.

Muppet*Vision 3D fans, prepare to get emotional: the cannon that the penguins used to shoot at the Swedish Chef lives on as a prop in the queue. There are also PizzeRizzo pizza boxes, a note from Sweetums still looking for Bean Bunny, and a tribute to one-off Muppet Angus McGonagle, who memorably appeared in the Star Wars episode of The Muppet Show.

Imagineers shot over 30 minutes of original footage for use in the queue, featuring Muppets and celebrities as varied as Bobo the Bear and John Stamos, to Fozzie and Weird Al Yankovic. The celebrity cameo screens are easy to walk past. We spotted a different celebrity on our second ride-through than on the first, which tells us they’re probably randomizing those as well.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Pre-Show: Scooter Takes Center Stage

The pre-show room structure will feel immediately familiar to veterans of the Aerosmith version. Guests enter the same circular room format, same building anticipation. However, the energy is completely different.

In the pre-show, guests see the Electric Mayhem getting ready for a big concert. Scooter, their manager, as well as penguin audio engineers, are present as Audio-Animatronics figures. The band members themselves appear via screen in a recording studio, just like Aerosmith did in the previous pre-show. Kermit and other Muppets appear on additional screens.

Walt Disney World confirmed that the attraction features a brand-new Scooter animatronic. His movements are fluid, his timing with the on-screen Muppets is sharp, and there’s a moment where he adjusts his glasses. It’s a small detail that lands huge.

The penguin audio engineers are also a delightful bridge. The penguin animatronics may be recycled from Muppet*Vision 3D, which featured a penguin orchestra. If true, those little guys got a second life, and we love that for them.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Ride: Same Track, Different Soul

Colorful Muppets Rock 'n' Roller Coaster cars lined up on a track indoors; posters reading 'Sold Out' visible in the background.

Here’s the honest truth for anyone who rode the Aerosmith version dozens of times: the physical experience of this coaster has not changed. It still feels like the previous coaster experience. It still feels unmistakably like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, with the same intense launch, inversions, darkness, and high-speed ride profile longtime fans expect.

That 0-to-57-mph launch in under three seconds still snaps your head back. The three inversions, the loop, the corkscrew, and the zero-gravity roll, still deliver exactly the way they always have. The structure of the ride is a known quantity. In fairness, our two rides were very different, with one being fairly smooth. However, the second one was very rough and the old-school over the shoulder restraints were uncomfortable. Remember, this is from someone who commonly rides more thrilling roller coasters at Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld Orlando, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Guests should not expect a smooth ride when on Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

What has changed is the tone and feel of the entire experience. Rather than dramatically changing the physical ride itself, Walt Disney World focused on transforming the attraction’s tone through new music, onboard audio, visual effects, and Muppets-style chaos. Instead of the original Aerosmith concert fantasy, fans get something more playful, frantic, and comedic, with Electric Mayhem songs and character audio making the coaster feel alive throughout the ride.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Soundtrack: Five Songs

The onboard audio is where this retheme earns its stripes. The onboard soundtrack features several songs performed by the Electric Mayhem alongside guest artists, including “Song 2,” “Born to Be Wild,” “Love Rollercoaster,” “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop),” and “Walking on Sunshine.”

  • 01 Song 2 (Blur) feat. Animal — The “WOO-HOO” song, featuring Animal absolutely losing it
  • 02 Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf) feat. Camilla the Chicken — yes, the chicken
  • 03 Love Rollercoaster feat. Jennifer Hudson and Questlove
  • 04 Rock! Rock! (Til You Drop) feat. Def Leppard
  • 05 Walking on Sunshine Full Electric Mayhem arrangement with Kelly Clarkson

The randomized soundtrack system is one of the smartest decisions Walt Disney World made with this attraction. We rode it twice and got different songs each time, which immediately makes it more re-rideable and gives guests a reason to queue up again.

We enjoyed the Def Leppard song far more than the cover of “Walking on Sunshine.” In fairness, we previously enjoyed Aerosmith’s music on the ride. Additionally, there were some launch issues on our second visit, so we heard the introduction of the Kelly Clarkson cover song several times. Opinions on favorite songs will vary.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Easter Eggs Onboard

Even while you’re screaming through the dark at 57 mph, the Imagineers hid details. You’ll spot World Wide Studios from The Muppet Movie, a glowing Rat Pizza sign, a Waldo crossing sign referencing the “Spirit of 3D,” and an “Obligatory Easter Egg” sign. That last one might be the funniest self-aware gag we’ve seen Walt Disney World pull off in awhile.

Statler, Waldorf, and a Tribute to Jim Henson

The unload area is where things get genuinely moving. Walt Disney World confirmed that the retheme includes a direct callback to a well-known joke from the former MuppetVision 3D attraction. Statler and Waldorf return in new scenes, repeating a variation of their longtime “bolted to the seats” gag, bringing a familiar joke into Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for longtime park guests.

Also, right above the unload area, a touching portrait of Jim Henson as a Muppet now hangs, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the visionary who created these beloved characters. On our first ride, we almost missed it. On our second ride, we looked for it specifically. It’s a small touch that says everything about how much care went into this retheme.

Rock Around the Shop & FØØD by Swedish Chef

Guests exit through a new shop called Rock Around the Shop. The full merch collection at Rock Around the Shop features a mix of apparel, accessories, and souvenirs. However, it was not available during our previews. Just outside, FØØD by Swedish Chef is rolling out a refreshed look for the kiosk that has been in this location along with some updated menu featuring all-new snacks and drinks..

Menu board titled 'FOOD by Swedish Chef' listing snacks and drinks, including Wocka Wocking Nachos, Churro Drumstick, Mini Corn Dogs, Frozen Treats, and beverages with prices.

The Fan Verdict: How Does It Compare to the Aerosmith Version?

Opinions in the parks during Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster previews were genuinely mixed, but mostly leaning positive. We think the nuance is worth unpacking.

Some longtime fans say the attraction now feels less “cool” and more intentionally chaotic compared to the sleek late-1990s rock-concert atmosphere of the Aerosmith version. That’s a fair point. If you grew up thinking Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was the edgiest, most adult ride at Walt Disney World, this version isn’t going to scratch that same itch. It’s not trying to.

What it is trying to do, and largely succeeds at, is bring joy, humor, and genuine Muppet chaos into a world-class thrill ride. The queue is richer than anything the Aerosmith version offered. The soundtrack is more varied. The Easter eggs reward repeat riders. Also, the Scooter animatronic represents a genuine technical achievement.

Overall, this is a better themed attraction than its predecessor, even if it’s a different energy. The Aerosmith version had that cool factor. Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a better theme park feel. While we prefer the Aerosmith version, change is a part of life!

Tips for Your Visit: Grand Opening & Beyond

Row of bright, retro-style posters advertising concerts on a gray wall, with palm trees and blue sky in the background; a metal trash can and chain barriers are in the foreground.

1. Arrive early on opening day. A virtual queue is not planned for when the attraction officially opens on May 26. It will use a standby line and Lightning Lane. That means the classic early-arrival strategy applies. Be at the park before rope drop.

2. Check for Single Rider. There’s no word yet on the Single Rider line. The sign was removed, but that could have been for repainting. Keep an eye on Disney’s official channels before your visit.

3. Slow down in the queue. Seriously. Budget an extra few minutes actually to look at the Easter eggs. Bring your most obsessive Muppets fan friend. They will love you for it.

4. Ride it twice if you can. The randomized soundtrack means you genuinely get a different experience each ride. If the wait time allows, stay for a second lap.

5. Check FØØD by Swedish Chef and Rock Around the Shop. New merchandise and themed food are part of the full experience. Concert-inspired snacks and treats are available in the surrounding courtyard.

6. Look up at the Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster unload area. Do not miss the Jim Henson portrait. Take a breath after the ride and look up.

Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is a solid retheme. After attending two passholder previews and riding it back-to-back, we can tell you with confidence: the Muppets work well here.

The Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster track layout stays the same, but the experience leans harder into puppetry, and rapid-fire sight gags. For families who found the Aerosmith version a little too “rock cool” for younger kids, this version opens the door without dimming the thrill. For Muppets fans who’ve been mourning Muppet*Vision 3D since June 2025, this is a worthy, and far more adrenaline-fueled successor. Yes, it has a height requirement, so little ones cannot ride, which takes away some of the Muppets’ power.

See you on Sunset Boulevard on May 26th and beyond. The L.I.M.O. is warmed up. Dr. Teeth is on the keys. Animal is already hitting things. Let’s go!
