Why the Banana-Loving Friend in Our Group Was Disappointed by the Minions & Monsters Mischief Doughnut

We tried the new Minions Voodoo Doughnut at Universal Orlando! Will this banana Bavarian cream treat make you shout Bello, or is it a complete monster?

Right on the heels of our GOOOLLL! Doughnut review, we found ourselves marching right back to Universal CityWalk Orlando. Why? Well, it was the very first day of the all-new Minions Voodoo Doughnut ($5.50).

This treat, officially listed on the menu as the Minions & Monsters Mischief Doughnut, is a direct promotional tie-in for Illumination’s new Minions & Monsters movie sliding into theaters this July. Naturally, we grabbed our overalls, strapped on our goggles, and prepared to go absolutely bananas. Or so we hoped.

According to the official menu, this creation consists of a classic yeast shell filled with a “Bello Banana Bavarian cream.” It is topped with bright yellow icing, banana candy, and blue sprinkles, finished off with a printed sugar disc.

Visually, our crew did not find this special Minions Voodoo Doughnut as impressive looking as expected. For a franchise known for high-octane visual chaos, the final product felt a bit flat. The sugar disc image wasn’t great, and the banana candy piece on top is average at best. It certainly won’t win any Hollywood beauty pageants, looking more like a clumsy Gru experiment gone wrong.

Does It Speak the Language of Flavor?

As you might expect, this treat is heavily banana-flavored. We bit into it expecting a chaotic explosion of yellow goodness, but the results were mixed. Surprisingly, the banana-loving friend in our group did not think it was banana enough! It seems the “Bello” cream was a bit too shy.

On the positive side, the bakers delivered a reliably good yeast shell. The texture was soft and airy. When it came to the filling, some bites of the Minions Voodoo Doughnut were very fake banana, but thankfully, there weren’t very many of those artificial overtones. It just lacked the deep, rich flavor punch needed to make us shout “Bello!” to the heavens.

Overall Thoughts: Poopaye or Pwede Na?

Overall, this doughnut was good, but it didn’t completely steal our villainous hearts. It’s a fun novelty treat to grab if you are a die-hard fan counting down the days until Minions & Monsters hits the big screen. However, if you are simply looking for the best pastry in CityWalk, we would select several other Voodoo Doughnut options over the Minions Voodoo Doughnut on your next vacation. It is a perfectly fine snack, but it won’t help you and Gru rule the world!
