We tried the new Waffle Cone Chicken Strips at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! See if this sweet-and-savory handheld treat is worth the stop. For the record, we have some thoughts.!

Last week, Walt Disney World announced 13 new sauced chicken strips coming to the theme parks starting October 8. This news was met with mixed responses. These responses ranged from genuine interest to disdain. In fairness, we are discussing the introduction of new sauces (in some cases) to the standard Walt Disney World chicken strips. What is the big deal? Is this just an excuse to start charging more for chicken strips? However, it was part of covering over the price increases.

Despite those concerns, we found one of the “new” chicken strips that intrigued us. Walt Disney World revealed Waffle Cone Chicken Strips would be sold at the soon-to-be eliminated Restaurantosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Beaches Pool Bar and Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. We presume that the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips will relocate to Harambe Market when Restaurantosaurus closes permanently on February 2. However, we have nothing official from Walt Disney World.

As gluttons for punishment, we returned to Restaurantosaurus once more, hoping for tasty Walt Disney World quick service. However, we knew this could go poorly. Walt Disney World stated that the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips were tasty bites and a “unique take on classic chicken and waffles that will satisfy both the sweet and savory fans out there.”
The Waffle Cone Chicken Strips come with fries. They cost $12.99 fitting the across-the-board price increases at Walt Disney World that started today. The four Waffle Cone Chicken Strips come in small waffle cone bowl. Still, this caused us to wonder if the promise of chicken and waffles was overhyped.

We tend to avoid Restaurantosaurus based on its lower-quality quick-service dining options. However, we arrived at opening time to try the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips, only to be given cold fries. This happens often at Restaurantosaurus. However, guests can get a variety of basic sauces here, such as ranch, barbecue, and honey mustard, in addition to ketchup.
Upgraded or Standard?

Regarding the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips, they looked like standard Walt Disney World chicken strips. The strips stuck together a bit. We assume that was based on the light waffle cone-like coating each one had. Our first bite in a few words was…AWFUL! The chicken was difficult to chew, and the outer coating added no flavor but only a slight stickiness to our hands.

Our next few bites involved getting more of the waffle and syrup flavor. That aspect was not great but not bad either. Additionally, the more we ate the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips, the more we encountered batter falling off. This left below-average tasting quick-service chicken. For perspective, we found that some of the Waflfe Cone Chicken Strips tasted better with barbecue sauce on them, likely due to inconsistent batter. Yes, we also tested using ketchup and honey mustard. For the record, we would not recommend those sauce options.

The waffle cone bowl adds a touch of quality to the presentation. However, the flavor is just average, not adding much to the chicken strips. However, to the menu item’s credit, the portion size makes a decent value.
In fairness, the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips serve as a creative entrée to roll out and disguise the Walt Disney World price increases. Still, the flavor combination does work well enough for guests to make this a regular choice. Even if the Waffle Cone Chicken Strips make it to the menu at Harambe Market, they function as a novelty, not a go-to meal.
Finding Waffle Cone Chicken Strips

The Waffle Cone Chicken Strips can be found after navigating the construction walls at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Restaurantosaurus. If that sounds too scary, you could visit Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to try them at Beaches Pool Bar.
