“Star Wars: Starfighter” takes place about five years after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. However, it is not a direct sequel and will introduce new characters and settings within the Star Wars universe. Levy emphasized that the film will explore a previously uncharted period in the galaxy, offering a fresh adventure that stands apart from the existing saga.

Jonathan Tropper penned the screenplay, which is scheduled to begin production in the fall of 2025. Gosling, a lifelong Star Wars fan, expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the compelling script and the opportunity to work with Levy.

“Star Wars: Starfighter”

As the Star Wars franchise approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027, “Star Wars: Starfighter” aims to honor the series’ legacy while charting a new course for future storytelling. With its release coinciding with this milestone, the film is poised to captivate longtime fans and newcomers to the galaxy far away.

Levy told the audience at the Star Wars Celebration: “We’re fans, too. There’s obviously a relationship between these stories and the audience, but we’ve spent our lives in that audience. We know how meaningful it is.”

“Being here and seeing all of you [makes it] more inspiring to do it. There’s so much creativity and imagination in this room and there’s so much love. It’s such a great reminder of how much movies can mean to us, specifically how much these movies mean to us,” Gosling told the audience at the end of the presentation. “The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I’m here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, ‘May the fans be with us.’”

For the Star Wars Celebration, Gosling wore a fitting hat. It read,” Never tell me the odds.”
