Universal fans relax – Simpsons Land Universal Studios isn’t doomed (probably, right?). Here’s why the recent panic sounds more like a donut-fueled daydream than a disaster.

If you’ve read that Entertainment Weekly interview where The Simpsons co-showrunner Matt Selman predicted Universal would be “destroyed” if they lost the Simpsons theme park rights… well, you might’ve spat out your Flaming Moe. The interview is fun, but let’s remember: we’re taking theme park “intel” from someone not even inside the Universal gates (unless he’s paying for Express Pass). Selman himself admits he’s not in the loop, just offering his “fan opinion.” That’s like Homer saying, “I work at Duff, so I’m basically the mayor.”

The State of Simpsons Land Universal Studios

Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood both feature full-blown Simpsons Land (Yes, we know it is called Springfield U.S.A but the google deities told us to type “Simpsons Land”) experiences, complete with Krusty Burger, Moe’s Tavern, Lard Lad Donuts, and the motion-simulator Simpsons Ride. Orlando even adds the wonderfully weird Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ’n’ Hurl to round out the chaos. It’s a colorful, loud, snack-filled slice of Springfield, one of Universal’s most recognizable lands, even if it’s showing its age.

The Rumor: Simpsons Land Rights Extended to 2031?

Simpsons Lane Universal Studios

For about a month, rumors have been buzzing that Universal quietly extended its rights to The Simpsons through 2031. Sounds promising, right? Yes, this awkward custody battle between Universal and Disney might go on for several more years.
Except… there’s no official announcement. No paperwork, no press release, no Donut Media exclusive. Just the comforting hum of fan speculation.

Before that, other reports suggested the license might expire around 2028 if no deal was made. So, this 2031 chatter could be real or just wishful thinking from fans who can’t bear to lose their Duff Beer and pink-frosted donuts.

Why “Losing Simpsons Land” Won’t Destroy Universal

Selman’s dramatic “it would destroy them” claim makes great headlines but let’s put on our theme park logic hats:

Universal Studios Hollywood

Yes, construction chaos reigns supreme in Hollywood, and losing The Simpsons Ride there would be a logistical blow. Still, destroy the park? Please. Universal’s survived more overhauls than Krusty’s TV network.

Universal Studios Florida

Orlando’s Universal Studios is vast, flexible, and already plotting its next big move. From Universal Epic Universe to new mini-lands, Universal Creative has enough IP ammunition to re-theme Springfield five times over if needed.

Universal has reportedly brainstormed multiple replacements already; everything from Pokémon to Illumination properties has floated through the rumor mill. Losing the Simpsons license wouldn’t be a knockout blow, just a reason to order another Duff and regroup.

Simpsons Land Universal Studios Food Reporter Commentary

This food reporter tries to stay in their lane regarding theme park information. This rumor commentary blog drifts from that. However, one section of the EW interview could not be ignored. Selman said: “You know what the most popular thing is? The giant donut,” he says of the oversized donut from Lard Lad. “They would walk away from the giant donut? Nothing is printing more money. It’s not even that expensive! Honestly, I thought it’d be like $50, since theme parks upcharge. How could they possibly change it? The donut is so good.”

We appreciate the enthusiasm, but the “Big Pink” is fine. However, it is no culinary wonder. Guests can find a very similar pink donut, made by a king in Florida, for only a few dollars. Saying one thinks the “Big Pink” would be $50 shows a lack of culinary and theme park knowledge- sorry! Also, we will not even get into the rights issues to retheme Simpsons Land Universal Studios for seasonal events. Selman’s talk of that betrays that he makes a great showrunner but lacks theme park industry perspective.

Simpsons Land Universal Studios: The Donut-Flavored Truth

At the end of the day, that EW article is a fun read, but it’s based on passionate speculation, not park insider facts. The rumored 2031 extension might be real or just fan chatter. Either way, Universal isn’t sweating it.

If Springfield ever does ride off into the sunset, Universal Studios will simply whip up something new, loud, and meme-worthy to replace it. Still, let’s face it: if there’s one thing Universal loves as much as a churro cart, it’s reinvention. So for now, relax, grab a Duff, and enjoy your Twirl ’n’ Hurl. Simpsons Land Universal Studios isn’t going anywhere… at least not until 2031… probably.
