SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken is a rotating dish at the 2026 Seven Seas Food Festival. See our review of this Asian Marketplace item. Is this a hidden gem or just basic theme park Asian food?

If you’re visiting the annual food festival at SeaWorld Orlando and hoping for a bold, spicy punch from the Kung Pao Chicken, you may find this dish a little… shy. During our latest visit to the Seven Seas Food Festival, we stopped by the Asian Marketplace (#16) to try this rotating menu item available through April 12. We visited on the first day it became available at the Seven Seas Food Festival as a part of the rotating menu at the Asian Marketplace.

Spoiler alert: it’s perfectly edible, but if you’re expecting the flavor fireworks typical of a classic Kung Pao dish, this one might leave you politely applauding instead of giving a standing ovation. Let’s dig in.
What Is the SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken?

The SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken offered at the Asian Marketplace features:
- Spicy chicken
- Peppers
- Peanuts
- White rice
On paper, this sounds like a theme park festival win. Kung Pao dishes traditionally bring a balance of spice, savory sauce, and crunch from peanuts, often paired with a slightly tangy heat that builds with each bite.

Unfortunately, the version we tried leaned more toward mildly seasoned chicken over rice rather than a flavor-packed stir fry. Think Kung Pao Lite™.
First Impressions

Presentation-wise, the dish is pretty straightforward. You receive a small serving of chicken pieces with peppers and peanuts served over white rice. There’s nothing wrong with the look of the dish. It resembles what you’d expect from a festival booth: simple, quick, and easy to eat while wandering the park.

Still, the first bite revealed the biggest issue: the flavor never quite made it to the party. For a dish that should deliver bold garlic, chili heat, and savory sauce, this version tasted relatively muted. The chicken itself was cooked fine, but the sauce lacked the robust punch most guests associate with Kung Pao cuisine. It’s a little like ordering fireworks and getting sparklers instead. For fans of Kung Pao Chicken, this lacks something. However, if you are unfamiliar with Kung Pao Chicken, this might make a good introduction without the usual powerful spicy kick of that dish.
SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken : How It Compares to Other Asian Marketplace Items

The Asian Marketplace at the festival has offered a few different options this year, including rotating items. Previously, we tried the General Tso’s Chicken, another rotating menu item, earlier in the festival run. While that dish also had its moments, it didn’t quite justify the price either.
Previously, we also sampled the Shrimp & Broccoli, which is available for the entire festival run through May 17. That dish featured sautéed shrimp with broccoli in a savory sauce. It was decent but still didn’t stand out among other festival offerings. When you factor in the cost of festival food, both use of a sampler lanyard.
The Seven Seas Food Festival Butter Chicken Set the Bar

Ironically, the dish that highlights the shortcomings here isn’t even in the same marketplace. Over at the Indian Market, the Butter Chicken absolutely shines. The rich, creamy tomato-based sauce and tender chicken deliver the bold flavor payoff you hope to find at a food festival. When compared side-by-side with that dish, the Kung Pao Chicken from the Asian Marketplace feels like it’s playing in the minor leagues. Sadly, the Butter Chicken will be missed since it has left the Indian Marketplace. Still, the Tandoori Chicken that replaced it in the second rotation lives up to the hype.
A Sweet Surprise from the Same Booth

If you’re stopping at the Asian Marketplace, you might want to skip the savory dish entirely and go straight for dessert. One of the better desserts we’ve tried at the Seven Seas Food Festival is the Fried Cheesecake with Strawberry Sauce, which is also available throughout the festival. The crispy exterior, paired with creamy cheesecake and sweet strawberry sauce, makes it a much more memorable option.
In fact, if you’re holding a sampler lanyard (more on that below), this dessert might be a good choice for your group.
About the Seven Seas Food Festival

The Seven Seas Food Festival is one of the largest seasonal events at SeaWorld Orlando.
The festival runs Thursday through Sunday through May 17, transforming the park into a global tasting event with food and drink booths scattered throughout.
Guests can expect:
- Dozens of international food booths
- Live concerts on select nights
- Craft beers and cocktails
- Rotating menu items throughout the festival
The rotating dishes keep things fresh, which is why the Kung Pao Chicken appears only during a limited window.
The Sampler Lanyard

If you plan to try multiple dishes, the Sampler Lanyard is almost always the way to go. SeaWorld sells lanyards that include a set number of food and beverage samples you can redeem at festival booths.
Current options include:
- 10-item sampler $74.99
- 15-item sampler $89.99
- 18-item sampler for SeaWorld Orlando pass members only $89.99
The more samples you purchase, the lower the cost per item becomes. If you’re planning to graze around the park—and let’s be honest, that’s the whole point of a food festival—the sampler lanyard can save a decent amount of money. Just make sure you’re using those punches on items you actually love.
SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken Summary

The SeaWorld Kung Pao Chicken at the Asian Marketplace is… fine. Not bad. Not great. Just perfectly average. For a dish that should be bursting with chili heat, garlic, and savory sauce, this version feels toned down. If you’re working your way around the Seven Seas Food Festival, there are definitely better bites worth your sampler credits. Still, if you’re a Kung Pao fan, it may be worth trying once to judge for yourself.
Just don’t be surprised if you finish it and think: “That was okay… what’s the next booth?”
