Our General Tso’s Chicken review covers the theme park spice and menu accuracy at SeaWorld Orlando’s Seven Seas Food Festival. See if it’s worth your lanyard.

General Tso's Chicken review

We publish theme park dining reviews every weekday at noon Eastern Time. However, sometimes we publish bonus theme park dining reviews such as this General Tso’s Chicken review from the Seven Seas Food Festival.

As of February 12, 2026, the schedule for the Seven Seas Food Festival Marketplaces looks like this:

Culinary Marketplace Hours

  • Thursdays- 2pm-7pm
  • Fridays- 3pm-8pm
  • Saturday and Sundays 12pm-8pm

This is a change from being open noon to park closing time. Guests should plan accordingly.

SeaWorld Orlando’s Seven Seas Food Festival is back, whisking park-goers away on a global culinary adventure onselect days through May 17th, 2026. This sprawling event transforms the park into a vibrant tapestry of international flavors, featuring over 200 dishes and beverages, and a fantastic lineup of live concerts. It’s an undeniable draw for foodies, especially with the ever-popular Sampler Tasting Lanyards offering great value:

  • 10-item Lanyard: $74.99
  • 15-item Lanyard: $89.99
  • 18-item Lanyard (for SeaWorld Orlando pass members only): $89.99

These lanyards are definitely the way to go if you plan on trying more than a few items, significantly reducing the à la carte cost per dish. We recently made a stop on this year’s foodie tour at the Asian Market for the new this year General Tso’s Chicken, available through March 8th. The menu promised “Crispy Chicken Tossed in Sweet-Spicy Sauce, White Rice.”

Seven Seas Food Festival Items Available at the Asian Market Currently

Seven Seas Food festival

The Seven Seas Food Festival is using rotating menus this year at many of the food and beverage markets. So, not every item seen on the menu boards is available. Right now, guests can order the following:

  • General Tso’s Chicken (Available from 1/30 – 3/8) – Crispy Chicken Tossed in Sweet-Spicy Sauce, White Rice
  • Shrimp & Broccoli – Sauteed Shrimp with Broccoli, Savory Sauce
  • Fried Cheesecake with Strawberry Sauce
  • Cherry Blossom – Sake, Cherry Liqueur, Gin, Grand Marnier, Grenadine, Lime Juice

The Dish: A Reality Check

General Tso's Chicken Review

Upon receiving our order, the first thing we noticed during our General Tso’s Chicken review was that the “crispy chicken” wasn’t as crispy as described. While certainly cooked through, the chicken pieces lacked the characteristic crispiness you expect from a well-executed General Tso’s. Instead, they leaned more towards a softer, almost breaded nugget texture.

Overall, this qualifies as theme park Asian food. Our group felt it was below the quality of Panda Express, a fast-casual chain. In fairness, guests who want to sample theme park Asian food without paying top dollar, then this makes sense. However a la carte, the General Tso’s Chicken costs $11.99, so make sure you are using a sampler lanyard. Also, guests should be aware that the portion size is much smaller than comparable rice dished at other Seven Seas Food Festival Marketplaces.

General Tso’s Chicken Review: The Sauce

The sauce, advertised as “sweet-spicy,” delivered primarily on the “spicy” front. However, by “spicy,” we mean a distinctly “theme park spicy.” This isn’t the nuanced heat of an authentic Szechuan dish; instead, it’s straightforward. For those who enjoy a good level of heat, this will be disappointing, but those expecting a balanced sweet-spicy profile might find it pleasant. Sadly, the sauce lacks a distinct General Tso’s robust flavor lowering the overall quality.

Perhaps the biggest letdown was the accompanying white rice. It arrived somewhat dry and clumpy, doing little to complement the chicken. In fact, it seemed to actively detract from the dish, failing to absorb any of the sauce or provide a comforting, neutral base. We found ourselves wishing for a different starch, or at least rice that was cooked with more care.

The General Tso’s Chicken Review Verdict & Looking Ahead

General Tso's Chicken Review

While the General Tso’s Chicken certainly satisfied a craving for Asian theme park food, it ultimately fell short of the menu description and our expectations. The lack of crispiness in the chicken and the uninspired rice were notable drawbacks. It’s a testament to the “theme park level spice” that some will enjoy the kick, but for those seeking a more authentic or balanced flavor, this might be one to skip.

Seven Seas Food Festival

Remember, the 2026 Seven Seas Food Festival features a rotating menu. This particular General Tso’s Chicken will only be available until March 8th. After that, the Asian Market will introduce other Seven Seas Food Festival items that include:

Seven Seas Food Festival
  • Kung Pao Chicken (Available from 3/9 – 4/12) – Spicy Chicken, Peppers, Peanuts, White Rice
  • Sweet & Sour Chicken (Available from 4/13 – 5/17) – Crispy Chicken with Tangy Sweet Sauce, White Rice

We’re eager to see what takes its place and hope for future dishes that better align with their descriptions and offer a more harmonious culinary experience.
