Halloween season is in full swing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and that means one thing for regulars of Toy Story Land. It’s time for the annual rotation of Woody’s Lunch Box tarts. This fall, the walk-up window in Andy’s backyard is serving the Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart, a seasonal spin on the location’s signature toaster pastry. We made the trip over to Toy Story Land to grab one for ourselves, and here’s exactly what you can expect if you’re thinking about adding it to your snack lineup this October.
Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart: Where to Find It
Woody’s Lunch Box sits across from Alien Swirling Saucers and just a short walk from Toy Story Mania, making it one of the easiest quick-service stops to squeeze into a Hollywood Studios day. Well, that assumes you can find a seat and the queue is not too long.
The location is best known for sandwiches, Totchos, and a rotating lineup of Lunch Box Tarts that changes with the seasons. Mobile order is available and, honestly, recommended. Toy Story Land gets crowded fast, and the walk-up window can build a line during peak hours.
What the Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart Looks Like
Presentation is where this tart earns some real points. As reported previously, it comes in the familiar Lunch Box Tart shape, a rectangular hand pie about the size of a deck of cards, with a golden, crimped pastry edge that runs the full border like a mini pie crust. Instead of a smooth, flat coating, the top is finished with a wavy, hand-piped layer of bright orange icing that pools and dips across the pastry rather than covering it edge to edge, so you can still see the crimped crust peeking out underneath.
Two soft white mini marshmallows are tucked into that orange icing near each end, and the whole thing is finished with a scattering of purple and dark green Halloween sprinkles. Right in the center sits the star of the show: a dark chocolate jack-o’-lantern disc with a carved, slightly grumpy little face pressed into it. It’s a fun, seasonal presentation. So, if you’re the type who documents every snack for the socials, this one will not disappoint on looks.
Our Tasting Notes
Here is where we have to be straightforward with you, because that is what we’re here for. This tastes fine. It tastes exactly as you would expect a pumpkin-flavored hand pie topped with sweet orange icing to taste. The crust is buttery and flaky in that familiar Lunch Box Tart way, and the filling brings a warm, spiced pumpkin pie flavor without leaning too hard into cinnamon.
Many guests find the Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart tastes a bit dry. However, that is not unusual with this type of treat at Woody’s Lunch Box. Despite that, the quality exist with this seasonal treat.
It is not a bad snack by any measure. It is also not a great one. There is nothing here that reinvents the seasonal snack wheel, and nothing that will make you rearrange your touring plan to track one down. It occupies that comfortable middle ground of theme park food where the flavor combination has been proven a hundred times before (pumpkin, spice, sweet fondant) and executed competently, without any surprises in either direction.
What it does have going for it is value. At $5.29, and at a time when plenty of seasonal Walt Disney World snacks are creeping toward the ten dollar mark, the Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart is firmly in cost effective territory for a Hollywood Studios treat. If you’re looking for something to split with a park companion, or a quick sweet bite that won’t blow up your snack budget, this fits the bill nicely. It’s the kind of order you make because you’re already standing in Toy Story Land and want a little something, not because you planned your whole day around it.
Pumpkin Lunch Box Tart: Should You Try It?
If you love pumpkin flavored anything and you’re passing through Toy Story Land anyway, sure, grab one. You’ll get a well made, reliably tasty seasonal snack for a reasonable price, and the presentation alone makes it worth a photo. Just temper your expectations. This isn’t a must eat, line up special item, and it won’t unseat your favorite Lunch Box Tart flavor if you already have one. Think of it as a solid, budget friendly way to get a little Halloween flavor into your park day, nothing more and nothing less.
