Guests visiting during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will find plenty of desserts across the park’s Outdoor Kitchens. Still, one sweet option worth noting sits just outside the traditional festival booths. The Norway Beer Cart, located in the Norway pavilion of World Showcase, is serving up a Lemon Bolle Epcot festival offering, a bright and refreshing treat, especially for early festival visitors.

What makes this location particularly notable is its opening time of 11:00 a.m. From Tuesday through Thursday, the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens don’t begin serving until 11:30 a.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. That extra half hour might not seem like much, but for hungry guests looking to snack earlier in the day, the Norway Beer Cart provides one of the first festival-style bites available in World Showcase. Additionally, if you’re craving something citrusy, the Lemon Bolle Epcot chefs designed may be worth the stop. For the record, the Florida Fresh Outdoor Kitchen at CommuniCore Hall opens even earlier.

Lemon Bolle Epcot: A Familiar Treat with a Citrus Twist

The Lemon Bolle is inspired by the traditional Norwegian sweet roll often served at the Norway pavilion’s bakery, Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe. Festival fans might remember a similar pastry earlier this year during the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, when Kringla Bakeri offered the Hazelnut Praline Boller. While that version leaned into rich chocolate and nutty flavors, the Flower & Garden version goes in the opposite direction, delivering something light, bright, and citrus-forward.

A Dessert Built for Lemon Lovers at the Flower & Garden Festival

At first glance, the Lemon Bolle is visually appealing. A soft pastry is topped with pillowy meringue and lemon elements that immediately evoke the flavor profile of a classic lemon pie. This dessert is designed to appeal to people looking for that classic flavor.

If you love lemon meringue pie, this festival treat will likely land squarely in your sweet spot. The lemon filling inside the pastry brings a tangy brightness that helps balance the sweetness of the meringue topping. The filling is also where the dessert truly shines. It provides the flavor punch that keeps the pastry from becoming overly sugary and gives the dish its refreshing character.

A Refreshing Break from Heavy Festival Foods

One thing the Lemon Bolle does very well is feel light — something that’s surprisingly valuable during a day of festival snacking. With many Flower & Garden offerings leaning toward fried foods, heavy sauces, or rich desserts, this pastry stands out as a clean, citrus-forward palate cleanser. It’s the type of treat that works especially well on a warm Florida afternoon when you want something sweet but not overly heavy.

The meringue topping is well executed, offering the airy sweetness you’d expect. However, it’s worth noting that the meringue isn’t meant to carry the dessert on its own — nor should it! Instead, it works best as a supporting element to the lemon filling.

Where the Dessert Falls Short

While the Lemon Bolle has plenty going for it, it doesn’t quite reach the same level as its Festival of the Arts predecessor. Compared to the Hazelnut Praline Boller previously served at Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, this version feels a little less complete. The biggest reason? The pastry itself.

The bolle dough is soft and pleasant enough, but it lacks a bit of the flavor depth that could elevate the dessert. More pronounced pastry notes, whether buttery richness or a hint of sweetness in the dough, would help balance the citrus and meringue components more effectively.

In its current form, the pastry mostly serves as a vehicle for the filling rather than contributing much flavor of its own. That doesn’t make the dessert bad by any means. It just means the supporting components outshine the base.

Lemon Bolle Epcot

Flower & Garden Festival

The Lemon Bolle at the Norway Beer Cart won’t necessarily become the must-have dessert of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. However, the citrus-forward flavor profile makes it especially appealing to lemon fans, and the dessert’s lightness helps it stand out from some of the heavier festival options.

Add in the earlier 11:00 a.m. opening time, and this becomes a convenient snack for guests exploring World Showcase before many of the Outdoor Kitchens officially begin serving. While we would have liked to see more flavor from the pastry component, the lemon filling and meringue still make for a solid festival dessert, particularly for those craving something bright and refreshing. If you’re making your way around the Norway pavilion during Flower & Garden, this Lemon Bolle might not be the festival’s headliner. Still, it’s a nice citrusy intermission between savory bites.
