Will Del Taco Orlando survive the latest franchisee bankruptcies? We dive into the news affecting Del Taco Orlando and what the Georgia exit means for Florida.

The quick-service landscape in Central Florida is shifting, and fans of the Crinkle-Cut Fry and The Del Taco are starting to look nervously at the horizon. With several Del Taco Orlando locations currently serving guests near Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, the brand has been a go-to for travelers and locals seeking a lower-priced alternative to traditional fast food.

However, recent news from our neighbors to the north has raised a massive red flag. Del Taco has reportedly exited the state of Georgia. According to local reports, 11 restaurants across Atlanta, Columbus, and Macon abruptly shuttered their doors this week. Georgia has been completely scrubbed from the official company website.

What Happened in Georgia?

The sudden disappearance of the brand in Georgia is tied to the financial struggles of a specific franchisee, Matadoor Restaurant Group. The group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2024, citing “rising operational costs” and an “unexpected decline in sales.”

While a Del Taco spokesperson stated the company is “actively exploring options to reopen these locations,” the pattern is becoming familiar. A similar situation occurred in Colorado recently, where 18 locations closed following a franchisee bankruptcy, though some have since managed to reopen.

In a statement emailed to Nation’s Restaurant News, a Del Taco spokesperson said, “We were recently informed that the franchisee operating our Atlanta, Columbus, and Macon, Georgia locations has closed all restaurants in these markets. This closure occurred without prior notice to Del Taco. The franchisee is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, and we are actively exploring options to reopen these locations as soon as possible. Updates will be shared as plans are finalized.”

Is the Del Taco Orlando Market Safe?

The big question for Floridians is whether the Del Taco Orlando footprint is at risk. Here is the current state of play:

  • Ownership Shifts: In December 2025, Jack in the Box completed the sale of Del Taco to Yadav Enterprises for $119 million. CEO Anil Yadav has expressed a “long-term growth vision” for the brand.
  • The Franchise Factor: The Georgia and Alabama closures were driven by a specific franchisee’s bankruptcy, not necessarily a corporate mandate to leave the Southeast.
  • Tourism Strength: The locations near Disney and Universal benefit from high-traffic tourism corridors that typically perform better than standard suburban markets.

For now, the Del Taco Orlando locations remain open and listed on the corporate directory. However, as operational costs continue to rise across the industry, fans of the brand’s value menu will be watching closely to see if the “Georgia Exit” was an isolated incident or the start of a regional retreat.
