Chipotle Pollo Asado returns today with a new recipe, plus Chili Lime Chips inspired by a viral fan food hack. Chipotle Mexican Grill is bringing back one of its popular limited-time proteins and adding a brand-new side inspired by how fans have already been eating their food. Beginning August 31, 2026, Pollo Asado returns to Chipotle restaurants in the United States and Canada with an updated recipe, while new Chili Lime Chips make their debut as part of the chain’s first-ever simultaneous launch of two limited-time menu items.

The return of Pollo Asado and the arrival of Chili Lime Chips give Chipotle fans two new reasons to make a restaurant run as summer winds down. Pollo Asado is available to everyone beginning August 31, while Chipotle Rewards members get early access to the Chili Lime Chips through the Chipotle app and online ordering before the chips roll out nationwide to all guests on September 4.

The latest version of Pollo Asado isn’t simply a return of the previous recipe. Chipotle says the limited-time menu item has been given an all-new recipe designed to add more brightness while maintaining the savory and smoky characteristics guests expect.

The chicken starts with freshly grilled adobo chicken seasoned with garlic, Mexican spices and hand-cut cilantro. It is then finished with bright citrus and real lime, creating a combination Chipotle describes as savory, smoky and brighter than the previous version.

Pollo Asado can be ordered in the same ways guests typically customize their Chipotle meals, whether that means a burrito, bowl, tacos or another entrée. The chain is positioning the new recipe as a limited-time offering, so fans who want to see how the updated version compares with the previous Pollo Asado will want to visit while it is available.

Chili Lime Chips Turn a Fan Hack Into a Menu Item

While Pollo Asado is returning, Chili Lime Chips are the genuinely new addition to the Chipotle menu. The idea came from a food hack that has taken off across social media. Chipotle says guests have increasingly been using seasoned packaged chips with their meals, whether they are scooping up bites of a bowl, crushing chips over their food for extra crunch or creating a version of a walking taco by putting their meal into a chip bag.

According to Chipotle, mentions of seasoned chips being paired with its entrées have increased more than 1,500% across social platforms since 2022. Related TikTok and Instagram content has generated approximately 96 million engagements. Rather than simply watching the trend continue online, Chipotle decided to turn the idea into an official menu item.

Chipotle tosses the resulting Chili Lime Chips fresh daily with real lime and a bold chili seasoning. Chipotle says they make them without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. That means guests can use them however they want. Eat them alongside a burrito bowl, scoop up bites of chicken and rice, crush them over an entrée, or simply eat them as a side. In other words, Chipotle has officially decided that the people playing with their food were onto something.

When Can You Get Chili Lime Chips?

There is a small catch for anyone who wants to try the new chips immediately. Chili Lime Chips launch August 31 as a digital exclusive for Chipotle Rewards members. Rewards members can order them through the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com and Chipotle.ca. The early-access period gives Rewards members a few days to try the new side before it becomes available to everyone on September 4. Pollo Asado, meanwhile, is available to all guests in the U.S. and Canada beginning August 31.

For guests who want to try both new offerings together, Chipotle senior vice president of culinary Nevielle Panthaky recommends a Pollo Asado bowl with white rice, black beans, roasted chili-corn salsa and guacamole, paired with Chili Lime Chips. Chipotle lists that recommended bowl combination at 46 grams of protein and 17 grams of fiber before adding the chips.

$0 Delivery Fee on Chipotle Pollo Asado

There is also a limited-time delivery promotion tied to the return of Chipotle Pollo Asado. From August 31 through September 13, Chipotle is offering a $0 delivery fee on qualifying Pollo Asado orders placed through the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com, and Chipotle.ca. The promotion includes restrictions, including a $10 minimum order in the United States or $12 in Canada before tax and fees. The offer is not valid through third-party delivery platforms, so guests looking to take advantage of the promotion will need to order directly through Chipotle’s digital ordering channels.

Chipotle Has Been Keeping the Promotions Coming

The Pollo Asado and Chili Lime Chips announcement arrives during a particularly busy stretch of Chipotle promotions. Earlier this month, Chipotle rolled out its back-to-school promotions, including the School Spirit BOGO and Chipotle Sundays. The School Spirit BOGO offered guests wearing qualifying school gear a free second entrée with the purchase of one entrée, while Chipotle Sundays offered a free entrée with the purchase of two or more entrées on designated Sundays. Main St Magic recently covered those offers in our guide to How to Get Free Chipotle During the Back-to-School Season.

Chipotle has also been leaning heavily into sports-related promotions. Our recent Chipotle BOGO Tennis Promotion coverage looked at the chain’s “Every Win Tastes Better” promotion featuring Taylor Fritz, with BOGO entrée offers becoming available when Fritz wins matches in New York.

Those promotions follow other recent Chipotle campaigns involving sports, entertainment and digital engagement. The chain’s current strategy clearly isn’t limited to simply putting another limited-time protein on the menu. Chipotle is increasingly connecting menu launches with social trends, athletes and fan participation.

Chipotle Puts Creators Behind the Camera

The launch campaign for Pollo Asado and Chili Lime Chips is also taking an unusual approach to advertising. Chipotle handed cameras to 100 creators at more than 50 restaurants across the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Rather than relying exclusively on traditional brand-produced footage, the creators documented restaurant preparation themselves, including grilling chicken, seasoning chips, slicing vegetables and making guacamole.

According to Chipotle, the creators collectively have more than 100 million followers across their social channels and captured 345 hours of footage. The resulting campaign will air on national television and run on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. The campaign represents Chief Brand Officer Fernando Machado’s first national advertising work since joining Chipotle and the company’s first major collaboration with agency partner KIDS.

Should You Try the New Chili Lime Chips and Chipotle Pollo Asado

For Chipotle fans, the August 31 launch provides two distinctly different reasons to stop by. Pollo Asado brings back a familiar limited-time favorite with a new recipe, while Chili Lime Chips take something fans were already doing on social media and turn it into an official menu item.

The timing also makes this an especially interesting launch because guests can get both items at once. Rewards members have the first opportunity to try the Chili Lime Chips beginning August 31, while everyone else gets access September 4. Whether the Chili Lime Chips become a permanent menu staple remains to be seen, but Chipotle’s decision to build an official menu item around a viral fan hack shows just how closely the restaurant is watching the way its customers customize and enjoy their food.

For now, the combination of smoky, citrus-finished Pollo Asado and tangy Chili Lime Chips gives Chipotle fans something new to put into the burrito bowl rotation. Considering how frequently Chipotle has been rolling out promotions lately, it may be worth keeping an eye on the app before your next visit.
