Some theme park meals are memories in the making. Others are just lunch. The Pete’s Foot Long Nathan’s Hot Dog with chili, cheese, and fries at Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs at SeaWorld Orlando falls firmly into the second category. It is a foot of hot dog, some toppings, and a side of fries, and it lands squarely in average territory.
The good news is that it is available with the All-Day Dining Plan. That matters because at $17.49 before discounts or dining plans, this is not a hot dog you grab on a whim. Unless your whims are expensive, then carry on.

Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs Location and Hours
Captain Pete’s Island Hot Dogs sits on the far left side of SeaWorld Orlando (Key West area, ironically) as you enter the park. That out-of-the-way spot is a big reason it is usually not busy, which is a real perk if you would rather spend your lunch eating than standing in a line.
Typical hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during slower times of the year. The location stays open slightly later during busier times of the year. During our most recent visit, it opened a little late, but nothing ridiculous.
Still, that makes it a lunch stop, not a rope-drop breakfast or a late dinner. Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs is themed as a colorful Key West snack shack. It offers some limited outdoor seating with some cover. The menu is short, which can be refreshing or limiting, depending on how you feel about hot dogs and fries
A Quick History of Nathan’s Famous (Since We Supposedly Ate One)
Nathan’s Famous began in 1916 when Nathan Handwerker opened a nickel hot dog stand on Coney Island with $300 and his wife Ida’s recipe. He undercut his former employer, Feltman’s, by charging five cents for a hot dog while Feltman’s charged ten.
Customers reportedly worried that a hot dog that cheap could not be trustworthy. According to local lore, the fix was to hire men to dress as doctors and eat at the stand all day. It worked well enough that the trick didn’t matter once it was discovered.
Nathan’s own history also says that legend has it that the famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest started with four immigrants arguing over who was the most patriotic. Which brings us to the irony of our meal.
A hot dog that conquered New York for a nickel now costs $17.49 in Foot Long form with chili, cheese, and fries at SeaWorld Orlando. That is roughly 350 of the original nickel hot dogs. We are not saying that is a bad deal. Also, we can’t eat 350 hot dogs, and no competitive eater has come close in ten minutes either.
Pete’s Foot Long Nathan’s Hot Dog Review: Is It Worthy of the Nathan’s Legacy?
Well, did our experience live up to Nathan’s lore? Or did we think about how such an average hot dog could cost so much?
Here is what you get: a Foot Long Nathan’s Famous hot dog topped with chili and cheese, served with fries. That is the whole trick. There is no secret sauce, no signature twist, and no dramatic backstory about a pirate named Pete.
Does it work? Sure. It is a hot dog with chili, cheese, and fries, and every word on the menu shows up on the plate. Nothing about it is offensive. Still, nothing about it is memorable either. It is the culinary equivalent of a participation trophy. So, it exists, and everyone gets one.
The cheese sauce is basic concession stand cheese. The chili tastes like a decent canned chili. However, the bun and Nathan’s frank are forgettable. Additionally, the more you eat of the foot-long version at Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs, the saltier it gets. The fries were below average even for a theme park and weren’t well seasoned.
The foot-long size sounds like an adventure, but when the toppings and the fries are just fine, you have mostly created a very long way to feel mildly satisfied. It is a lot of hot dog to be this forgettable. That takes commitment, and we respect commitment…normally!
However, we would prefer better flavor if we have to deal with the probable mess of a chili dog. Get plenty of napkins with this one! We used a plastic fork and knife.
How Did it Look?
The presentation is average at best. Guests see basic cheese, chili, and a hot dog. The first impression will not be great!
On the positive side, we can think of two things. One, the ambassadors at Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs were wonderful, even with guests who had no clue what to order or how to order, and who changed their order after it was prepared. Second, the foot-long hot dog with chili and cheese is easy to share.
Our overall verdict on Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs is average at best. Also, we want to be clear that “at best” is doing some heavy lifting in that sentence. Still, Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs became popular soon after opening on the day we visited. We guess people want hot dogs at a theme park, no matter the quality. Although it doesn’t have hot dogs, we recommend Expedition Café as the nearest better option.
If the chili-and-cheese foot-long concept sounds appealing, Universal Studios Florida has a similar idea at Fast Food Boulevard with the Sideshow Bob Footlong, which we covered in our Fast Food Boulevard menu post. That one is better and costs less. However, it is not a lot better!
Price and All-Day Dining Plan Value
The Pete’s Foot Long Nathan’s Hot Dog with chili, cheese, and fries costs $17.49. The plain Foot Long Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog with fries costs $16.29, so the chili and cheese upgrade is about $1.20.
The SeaWorld Orlando All-Day Dining Plan costs $59.99 for adults and $29.99 for children ages 3 to 9. It allows one meal every 90 minutes at participating restaurants, and Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs is one of them. The adult plan includes one entrée, one side or dessert, and one soft beverage or iced tea.
At Captain Pete’s, a plan meal made up of the hot dog ($17.49), a Chocolate Chip Cookie ($7.49), and a fountain drink ($6.49) totals $31.47 before discounts. Two meals at that level cover the plan’s $59.99 price, which makes this a perfectly reasonable use of a plan credit if you are already planning to eat your way around the park.

Captain Pete’s Hot Dogs: Is Average “At Best” Good Enough For You?
Pete’s Foot Long Nathan’s Hot Dog is average at best. It is filling, included with the All-Day Dining Plan, and served in a location that is usually not busy. That counts for something. However, at $17.49 before discounts, it is hard to call it a must-eat.
If you have a dining plan credit to spend and you are near the far left side of the park between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., go for it. If you are paying out of pocket, take a lap around the park and weigh your options first.
