Universal Orlando dropped chilling news at Spooky Empire with a Halloween Horror Nights announcement, teasing new haunted themes and surprises for HHN fans. El Artista- A Spanish Haunting was announced as an original house for HHN 2025 Orlando.
Spooky Empire is Orlando’s premier horror-meets-pop‑culture convention, fondly billed as “the dark side of Comic‑Con.” Since its inception in 2003, this bi‑annual event has grown into one of the largest horror conventions in the U.S., drawing around 33,000 fans at its October show.
This event typically takes place in the spring and fall at venues such as the Wyndham Resort, DoubleTree by Hilton SeaWorld, and Hyatt Regency. From June 20-22,2025, Spooky Empire is being held at the Doubletree by Hilton SeaWorld Orlando.
During that event, a special panel featuring creative people from Halloween Horror Nights Orlando was held on Friday, June 20. In anticipation of this event, Halloween Horror Nights fans expected some announcement from the Universal Orlando Resort about the upcoming spooky event. Additionally, Mike Aiello left a clue about that on his social media.

Mike Aiello is a seasoned creative director and storyteller, best known for his work at Universal Orlando Resort, where he serves as Senior Director of Entertainment Creative Development, with a particular focus on the iconic Halloween Horror Nights event. As a writer and show director, he shapes the terrifying narratives and immersive haunted attractions that define one of the world’s most famous seasonal experiences.
When he leaves a clue, HHN fans pay attention. Still, what did this mean? Did it mean anything? Would this announcement be about the rumored “Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters” house? Could it be some explanation and announcement of the rumored “Artist” house? Some less connected insiders wondered if the “Terrifier” house would be announced during this panel.

Halloween Horror Nights House Announcement: El Artista – A Spanish Haunting
So, HHN fan got their first original Halloween Horror Nights house. It will be El Artista- A Spanish Haunting. Those in attendance at the HHN panel got to see concept art and photos from inside the El Artista- A Spanish Haunting house.
The backstory for this house involves a tragic ghost tale of a tortured artist consumed by evil. This artist moved to an isolated country manor in search of inspiration. However, the art comes alive and possesses him. El Artista – A Spanish Haunting will drag guests into a 19th-century nightmare, where an isolated manor becomes a canvas of possession and terror.
The HHN panel mentioned that the team at Universal Orlando Resort sought ways to push classic ghost effects for this house. Guests will get plenty of the Pepper’s Ghost effect and ghost pushing through the paintings.
As expected, fans at the event asked if El Artista is the “Icon” of HHN 2025 in Orlando. Mike Aiello, in typical fashion, did not directly answer that question, leaving it up to the fans to decide when they attend Halloween Horror Nights this year. Nevertheless, the artist, Sergio Navarro, will have a heavy influence on the overall theme of the event.

- The Tribute Store will be a part of Halloween Horror Nights Orlando again for 2025. This will be the tenth anniversary of the Tribute Store at the Orlando event.
- “The Conservatory” will be the overall theme of this year’s HHN in Orlando. It will feature gothic textures, stained glass, and gargoyles. As soon as HHN fans enter the event, they will be struck by those themes. Mike Aiello confirmed this during the Spooky Empire panel. This makes the collectible stained glass HHN 2025 item make more sense.
- According to Laura Sauls, this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event will be one of the most immersive ever, with the overall theme of the event carrying into all the scare zones.
- Mike Aiello said that IF the Nightmare Fuel show returns for 2025, a new creative director will be directing the stage show.
Halloween Horror Nights Orlando tickets are on sale now. Previous to this HHN house announcement, we learned that “Fallout,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and “Jason Universe,” would be houses at Halloween Horror Nights on both coasts. However, El Artista – A Spanish Haunting will only be in Orlando.
