SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal Coming to McDonald’s Sept. 15

The SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal arrives at McDonald’s nationwide on September 15, featuring collectible toys that reimagine Bikini Bottom as the Straw Hat crew.
Bikini Bottom is setting sail for the Grand Line. McDonald’s has confirmed that its SpongeBob SquarePants x One Piece Happy Meal will launch at participating U.S. restaurants on September 15, giving American fans an official date for a crossover that had been rumored online for weeks.
The announcement through McDonald’s own social channels stated that it has “truly entered the great Happy Meal era” as it teased the SpongeBob and One Piece pairing. A companion trailer from McDonald’s, Nickelodeon, and Toei Animation shows familiar Bikini Bottom residents reimagined as members of the Straw Hat crew, and the campaign’s key art depicts a pirate ship that blends Bikini Bottom’s aesthetic with the Grand Line, complete with a Happy Meal box sprouting skeletal arms and legs.
SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal: Meet the Mashups
McDonald’s built the promotion around collectible toys that pair specific characters from each franchise, rather than offering two separate toy lines. Confirmed pairings so far include SpongeBob reimagined as Gear 5 Luffy, Patrick Star as Roronoa Zoro, Squidward channeling Sanji, Gary dressed as Tony Tony Chopper, Mrs. Puff as Big Mom, and Mermaid Man as Monkey D. Garp. McDonald’s own menu spotter page frames the pairing as a story of “a fry cook with big dreams” crossing paths with “a young captain determined to become King of the Pirates.” Reported toy counts have varied slightly by outlet, with some pegging the collection at 13 pieces and others at 15.
A Global SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal Rollout, With the U.S. Now Locked In

The U.S. had already been named as a participating market before this week, but McDonald’s had not previously confirmed a domestic on-sale date. That date is now set for September 15, with the promotion running at participating restaurants while supplies last. The campaign is rolling out sequentially across more than 66 countries and regions, spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania, making it one of the broadest Happy Meal pushes McDonald’s has run. The SpongeBob x One Piece tie-in follows another unlikely McDonald’s mashup, a Godzilla and Hello Kitty Happy Meal, and arrives the same month as a Texas-exclusive Happy Meal built around seven state-themed collectible cups.

Why Theme Park Fans Should Care
Both franchises already have a foothold in the theme park world. SpongeBob SquarePants is a headline Nickelodeon property at Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, where an entire Bikini Bottom land brings the show to life. One Piece, meanwhile, has been a growing presence at Universal Parks events, including a themed experience at Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and recurring limited-time attractions, food, and merchandise at Universal Studios Japan. It is also a big month for One Piece merchandise generally. Nike is preparing a One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus collection with a matching apparel capsule for release throughout September.
