A New Addition to Central Park Crepes

Universal Studios Florida recently refreshed the menu at Central Park Crepes by adding the Key Lime Pie Crepe while retiring several longtime favorites. The stand has become known for rotating seasonal specialties, allowing frequent visitors to discover something new throughout the year. The newest dessert is priced at $11.99, and Universal Orlando Annual Passholders receive their standard food discount where applicable. According to Universal Orlando, the crepe includes:

  • Key lime filling
  • Graham cracker crumbs
  • Whipped topping
  • Powdered sugar

Our Key Lime Crepe Review

The first thing you’ll notice is that the Key Lime Crepe is absolutely loaded with filling. That’s great if you’re a fan of key lime pie, but it also makes this one of the messiest desserts we’ve eaten at Universal Studios Florida. Expect plenty of whipped topping and filling to escape with nearly every bite.

The citrus flavor is definitely present. It isn’t overwhelmingly tart, but there’s enough fresh lime flavor to keep it from tasting like generic canned pie filling. Universal Orlando Resort chefs clearly added extra citrus character that helps brighten the dessert. If not, we need to meet their supplier and start using them.

That said, we wouldn’t call it a game changer. The biggest issue came down to consistency. The Key Lime Crepe ingredients weren’t evenly distributed throughout the crepe, so some bites were mostly whipped topping while others were almost entirely key lime filling. It was surprisingly difficult to get everything together in one bite, meaning the best flavors didn’t always come through.

Sharing also proved challenging. When we visited, Central Park Crepes didn’t have plastic knives available, making it difficult to split between two people. We ultimately walked over to Mel’s Drive-In to grab a plastic knife before attempting to divide it. Even then, the soft filling made sharing something of a balancing act.

Is It Worth Ordering?

If you enjoy key lime pie, the answer is probably yes. The dessert delivers enough citrus flavor to feel refreshing during Florida’s summer heat, and it’s a nice alternative to heavier chocolate desserts found elsewhere in the park.

It’s not perfect, though. The uneven distribution of filling keeps it from reaching its full potential, and the lack of utensils at the stand makes sharing more difficult than it needs to be.

Pros

  • Refreshing citrus flavor
  • Plenty of creamy filling
  • Great summertime dessert
  • Annual Pass discounts apply

Cons

  • Extremely messy
  • Difficult to share
  • Filling isn’t evenly distributed
  • Some bites are much better than others

Dining at Central Park Crepes

Located on the far edge of the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida near the entrance to Central Park, Central Park Crepes has become one of the resort’s most popular quick-service snack locations. Rather than serving traditional folded breakfast crepes, the stand specializes in oversized savory and sweet handheld crepes, freshly assembled throughout the day.

Recent menu updates have continued Universal Orlando’s trend of rotating offerings, with seasonal creations joining longtime guest favorites. This gives repeat visitors a reason to stop by throughout the year, as the menu is rarely static. Guests should keep a few things in mind before visiting:

  • Mobile ordering is not currently available.
  • The location can develop long lines during lunch and afternoon snack hours.
  • Outdoor tables are available nearby, but seating is limited.
  • Annual Passholder food discounts apply.
  • Portions are generous enough that many guests can comfortably share one savory crepe or dessert, though you’ll likely want to bring your own plastic knife if you plan on splitting this particular dessert.

Because of its central location, Central Park Crepes also makes a convenient snack stop before heading to Diagon Alley, the New York area, or the nearby attractions in the Hollywood area of Universal Studios Florida.

Key Lime Crepe at Central Park Crepes

Universal Orlando Resort has created a solid summer dessert with the Key Lime Pie Crepe. While it doesn’t completely recreate the experience of eating a slice of authentic Florida key lime pie, it captures enough of those familiar flavors to make it an enjoyable treat. Just be prepared to get messy, and maybe stop by another restaurant to grab a knife if you’re planning to share. If Universal Orlando can improve the ingredient distribution throughout the crepe, this could easily become one of the better seasonal desserts inside Universal Studios Florida.
