Coral Reef Closing

Coral Reef closing begins September 8 at Epcot. Walt Disney World has not confirmed whether the aquarium restaurant will reopen.

Guests planning a visit to Epcot this summer may want to make reservations soon, as Coral Reef Restaurant is scheduled to close beginning September 8, 2026. At this time, Walt Disney World has not announced whether the closure will be temporary for refurbishment or permanent, leaving fans of the dining location with more questions than answers. Located inside The Seas pavilion in World Nature, Coral Reef has been a unique dining experience for decades, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy seafood and steak while watching thousands of marine animals swim through one of the largest aquariums in North America.

With reservations no longer available beginning September 8, speculation is already growing over what the future holds for one of Epcot’s most recognizable restaurants. As of publication, Walt Disney World has not provided additional details regarding the closure or any replacement plans. All we know is this official statement on the Walt Disney World website:

Coral Reef Restaurant will be temporarily closed beginning September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in 2026.

Coral Reef Closing: A Longtime Epcot Favorite For Some

Since opening in 1986 alongside The Living Seas pavilion, Coral Reef Restaurant has offered one of the most immersive dining experiences at Walt Disney World. Rather than relying on characters or themed entertainment, the restaurant’s main attraction has always been its massive floor-to-ceiling viewing windows overlooking the pavilion’s six-million-gallon aquarium.

Throughout a meal, guests can watch sea turtles, sharks, rays, schools of colorful fish, and even Disney’s scuba divers glide past their tables. It’s a relaxing atmosphere unlike anything else at Walt Disney World and has made Coral Reef a memorable stop for generations of Disney vacationers. However, in recent years, the food quality has dropped perhaps leading to fewere guests dining here.

Recent Operational Changes

The upcoming closure follows operational changes that were made earlier this year. Beginning in January 2026, Coral Reef transitioned to dinner-only service, ending regular lunch offerings after declining daytime demand. At the time, Walt Disney World did not indicate larger changes were coming, making this latest closure particularly surprising. Whether those reduced operating hours were simply the first step toward a larger refurbishment or a sign of declining popularity remains unknown.

Temporary Closure or Permanent Goodbye?

For now, Walt Disney World has not shared why Coral Reef is closing. That leaves several possibilities on the table, including:

  • A routine kitchen or facility refurbishment
  • A complete reimagining of the restaurant
  • Menu and interior updates
  • A permanent closure to make way for a new dining concept

At this point, none of those possibilities have been confirmed. Given Epcot’s ongoing evolution over the past several years, guests have seen numerous dining locations updated, reimagined, or replaced as the park continues its transformation. Until Walt Disney World releases additional information, the future of Coral Reef remains a mystery.
