Mythos Restaurant Will Permanently Close at Universal Islands of Adventure (and Other Universal Orlando Changes)

Universal Orlando changes include Lost Continent closures, a reimagined Horror Make-Up Show, new dining, and Fat One’s at CityWalk.

Big changes are on the horizon at Universal Orlando Resort as the destination revealed a sweeping lineup of upcoming projects that will dramatically reshape several fan-favorite areas over the next few years. From a reimagined version of the Horror Make-Up Show to the phased closure of Lost Continent, Universal Orlando Resort is clearly signaling that even more transformation is ahead as the resort continues its rapid expansion following the opening of Universal Epic Universe.
Horror Make-Up Show Closing Temporarily for Major Refresh

Beginning May 12, 2026, the Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida will temporarily close as Universal Orlando Resort prepares an updated version of the long-running attraction. According to Universal Orlando Resort, the refreshed experience will debut later this year and feature a blend of classic and modern horror properties while maintaining the show’s signature comedic, and over-the-top tone. The attraction has remained one of the park’s most treasured opening-day era experiences thanks to its mix of practical effects demonstrations, audience participation, and irreverent humor. Universal Orlando Resort teased that the new version will include “shockingly fun surprises,” though the company stopped short of revealing which horror franchises could be represented in the updated production.
Big Universal Orlando Changes: Lost Continent Set to Disappear in Phases

Perhaps the most significant announcement involves the future of Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure. While this rumor had been floating around for years, it will change Universal Islands of Adventure. Universal Orlando Resort confirmed that venues and experiences throughout the land will permanently close in phases over the coming months to make way for an entirely new themed area. While no official replacement has been announced, speculation has intensified for years surrounding the future of the largely dormant section of the park.
One major casualty will be the popular Mythos Restaurant, which Universal says will close sometime in 2027. Mythos has long been considered one of the best theme park restaurants in the world (by some respected sources) and has become an icon within Universal Islands of Adventure thanks to its elaborate cavern-themed interior and upscale menu offerings. Its eventual closure will undoubtedly mark the end of an era for longtime Universal Orlando Resort fans.
Thunder Falls Terrace Becoming New Signature Restaurant

Additional dining changes are also coming to Universal Islands of Adventure. Thunder Falls Terrace will close later this summer and eventually reopen in 2027 as an all-new dining concept. Universal Orlando Resort says the reimagined venue will become the theme park’s new signature full-service restaurant.
Located near Jurassic Park River Adventure, Thunder Falls Terrace has traditionally operated as a quick-service location known for rotisserie chicken and outdoor waterfront seating. Details regarding the new restaurant’s theme and menu remain under wraps.
Since Universal Orlando Resort legend states that Thunder Falls Terrace was originally supposed to be a full-service restaurant, this change should be easier than most. Guests will need to wait to see if Universal Orlando Resort “spares no expense” with this revamped Jurassic Park dining option.
Joey Fatone Bringing Fat One’s to CityWalk

Meanwhile, Universal CityWalk Orlando is preparing for another major dining addition. Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice, founded by *NSYNC member Joey Fatone and manager Joe Mulvihill, will replace Hot Dog Hall of Fame after the current venue closes in July. The new eatery will feature specialty hot dogs, Italian ice, and other fast-casual offerings designed specifically for CityWalk guests.
More Universal Orlando Changes Still Ahead

These newly announced projects join an already stacked slate of Universal Orlando changes currently in development across Universal Orlando Resort. Previously announced experiences include Five Guys and Luke Combs’ Category 10 at CityWalk, along with the highly anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster scheduled to open in 2027. Universal Orlando Resort says more details about all of these projects will be shared in the coming months.
