Dive into SeaWorld Orlando’s premier dining: Sharks Underwater Grill. Enjoy upscale American cuisine inches from massive sharks, sea turtles, and other marine life. Is the food as good as the view? Find out!

In a theme park landscape often dominated by quick-service meals and grab-and-go fare, there exists a tranquil, upscale oasis that offers not just a meal, but an immersive, memory-making experience. That haven is the Sharks Underwater Grill and Bar at SeaWorld Orlando. Tucked away in the park’s Shark Wreck Reef area, this signature full-service restaurant stands out as the park’s premier dining destination, where the ambiance alone is worth the price of admission…or, in this case, the cost of a filet mignon.

This is more than just a restaurant; it’s a portal to the deep blue sea, a table service dining experience where the world’s most magnificent (and often misunderstood) predators become your silent, mesmerizing dinner companions. For theme park enthusiasts, foodies, and marine life lovers alike, Sharks Underwater Grill is a must-do that successfully fuses an A-list attraction with a surprisingly high-quality menu.
The Ambiance: Dining Beneath the Waves

The moment you step inside Sharks Underwater Grill, you realize you have left the sun-drenched, coaster-fueled chaos of SeaWorld Orlando behind. The atmosphere is immediately transformed into one of calm, intimate sophistication. The lighting is low and moody, a deep ocean blue that complements the main event: the massive, floor-to-ceiling panoramic aquarium that forms one entire wall of the dining room.
This isn’t a small fish tank; it is the Shark Encounter habitat, meaning you are dining literally inches away from Sand Tiger Sharks, Sandbar Sharks, Nurse Sharks, and even the occasional graceful Green Sea Turtle or giant Sawfish. The effect is breathtaking. Whether you are seated directly against the glass (the coveted spot) or one slightly further back, the sheer size and constant movement of the marine life are utterly captivating. It’s an ever-changing cinematic backdrop that requires no narration, just your full attention between bites.

The unique layout ensures that every seat in the house provides a view. Although a reservation is highly recommended, if you can make an in-person, same-day priority seating request, asking for a table “shark-side” is the best bet for the ultimate experience. The bar area itself also boasts a smaller, but equally engaging, reef tank built into its counter, providing a spectacular view even if you are stopping by for a craft cocktail.
It’s the quintessential “wow factor” that separates this restaurant from almost any other dining venue in Orlando. While the decor elements themselves are tastefully modern, the natural wonder of the enormous tank is the undisputed star, elevating a simple meal into an immersive and awe-inspiring experience.
The Cuisine: More Than Just Theme Park Food

The biggest question surrounding any theme park fine dining establishment is always: Is the food as good as the spectacle? At Sharks Underwater Grill, the answer is a resounding yes, though with a few caveats. It falls into the “upscale casual” category, offering a contemporary American menu with a clear focus on seafood, steak, and inventive appetizers.

Recent menu highlights include:
Appetizers: The Cold Water Lobster Bisque is a popular, rich, and creamy starter

Entrees: Classic dishes, such as the Filet Mignon with a Cabernet demi-glaze, and the Miso Roasted Atlantic Salmon (served with sushi rice and Asian slaw), anchor the menu, providing sophisticated flavors often missing from park menus. Other options, like the Kobe Beef Sliders and the Cajun Tacos (available with blackened chicken or shrimp), offer delicious, though slightly more casual, high-end alternatives.

Desserts: The offerings are rich and decadent, such as the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake or the towering Chocolate Cake Confusion.
The Price Point: This is a $$$ restaurant, generally placing entrees in the $25–$40+ range. Dining here is a splurge, but one must weigh the cost of the food against the unparalleled entertainment value and the table service you receive.
Mixed Reviews

The Critique: While generally excellent, some recent guest reviews have noted a few subtle quality shifts following menu changes, particularly in side dishes or the consistency of preparation. For example, some guests have felt the sauce on the steak overpowered the meat, while others have called the chicken tacos “disappointing.” This suggests that while the restaurant aims for and often achieves a high-quality dining experience, the execution can occasionally fluctuate, which is something to consider when ordering one of the premium-priced items.
The quality tends to be substantially better than most theme park fare, but it may not always rival that of a top-tier independent steakhouse. Those looking for something equivalent to The Palm at Universal Orlando Resort or Flying Fish at Walt Disney World will find that Sharks Underwater Grill does not meet that standard.
Sharks Underwater Grill: The Bar and Signature Cocktails

Equally important to the dining room is the Sharks Underwater Bar. It’s a fantastic spot for an adult beverage break, even if you don’t have time for a full meal. The ambiance is equally strong, and the bar staff is attentive. A highlight is their signature cocktails. For instance, the Shark Tooth (often featuring Gray Whale Gin, supporting marine conservation) offers a refreshing, themed drink that fits the setting perfectly.
Practical Tips and Unique Logistics
Reservations are Key: SeaWorld Orlando often uses a “priority seating” request system, which is technically a waitlist, not a guaranteed reservation, but it is essential to put your name down as soon as the park opens (around 11 a.m.) if you plan on dining there, especially during peak season. You can sometimes book in advance online as well, and it is strongly encouraged.
The Real Attraction: Don’t forget to look around. If you are seated during the middle of the day, you might catch the divers who occasionally enter the tank to clean and tend to the animals, offering an up-close perspective you won’t get anywhere else.
Our Recent Experience at Sharks Underwater Grill

We recently visited Sharks Underwater Grill. As another example of the value of the Florida Platinum Pass, which includes SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, we earned this meal as a promotional reward for passholders. Yes, you read that correctly! We only paid for beverages, tax, and gratuity for a meal that included an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert at a table-service restaurant, simply because we are pass members and visit SeaWorld frequently.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon. Despite confusion on the website and the restaurant’s marketing, we made an advanced dining reservation for 3:00 p.m. via the SeaWorld Orlando website. The check-in process involves going to a stand outside the restaurant and informing them of your reservation. After that, the restaurant will text your group when your table is ready. We received a text around 2:55 p.m. for our reservation.
At that point, we went to check in at the same stand. However, we were told to move to a stand located just inside the restaurant to be seated. Soon after, we were sitting at a table near the aquarium wall. We were seated, but we didn’t see a server for some time. Based on the table arrangement at Sharks Underwater Grill, we suspect the restaurant is operating with a lower staff level.

We did notice that no one was seated at the table directly next to the aquarium wall. This made our seating advantageous regarding the view.
Sharks Underwater Grill has long been a unique dining experience at SeaWorld Orlando, but the menu deserves a closer look. We recently took the plunge to sample some of the offerings, focusing on the main shareable item, premium entrees, and, of course, dessert.
Shared Plates: The Value Proposition

We started with the Sundried Tomato Chicken Quesadilla ($26).
The Breakdown: This isn’t your average quesadilla. It features Tender Chicken Adobo in a rich blend of spices, Pimento Cheese, creamy avocado, Roasted Corn Relish, crema, and Pico de Gallo Salsa. It’s certainly a hearty, high-quality appetizer that is easily shareable.

Our Experience: The soft tortillas were a nice touch, although the guacamole was a bit average, and the serving sizes of both the guacamole and corn salsa were on the small side. The dish includes a light sour cream drizzle, but most guests might want to request extra sour cream to balance the richness.
The Verdict: Although there is concern about the price point for an appetizer, it’s substantial enough to serve as a light meal for one or a generous shared starter for two.

Note: We were initially not given an extra plate for this item, which was promoted as shareable, but the staff corrected this upon request.
The Premium Entrees at Sharks Underwater Grill

Next, we tried two of the heavier hitters on the menu.

Filet Mignon ($45): This classic dish came perfectly prepared. The Grilled Filet is served with a Cabernet Demi-Glaze and Yukon Gold Whipped Potatoes. The quality of the meat was good, making this a strong choice for those seeking a traditional fine-dining experience.

American Kobe Beef Sliders ($41): These sliders aim for premium status but come with a hefty price tag and some mixed results.
The Breakdown: They include Bacon Onion Jam, sharp Cheddar, herb Aioli, and Arugula, with a choice of vegetables or Truffle Parmesan Fries.

Our Experience: The sliders were a decent size, with a good portion of beef, but considering the $41 price, there were only two sliders. The bun was a bit hard, though nicely toasted. Frankly, these do not compare to the quality and value of similar premium sliders found elsewhere in Orlando (like The Boathouse Filet Mignon Sliders at Disney Springs).

Dessert and Oddities at Sharks Underwater Grill

We wrapped up the meal with a classic chocolate treat.
Chocolate Cake Confusion ($15): Don’t let the confusing name fool you—this is a satisfying chocolate bomb. It’s a combination of Brownie and Chocolate Cake that is filled with Fudge and then Enrobed in Ganache. It’s rich, decadent, and a great way to end the experience.

A Final Note on Straws: In a park that has essentially eliminated plastic straws, we were taken aback when straws were served with our water at Sharks Underwater Grill. It’s a minor detail, but one that deviates from the park’s standard practice.
Sharks Underwater Grill at SeaWorld Orlando: Is It Worth the Splurge?

In a world where theme park dining is often an afterthought, Sharks Underwater Grill and Bar is a triumphant success story. It understands that a truly great theme park restaurant must deliver on three key fronts: an unforgettable theme, a superb atmosphere, and high-quality food.
It succeeds wildly on the first two. The atmosphere is genuinely one-of-a-kind and undeniably a bucket-list experience for anyone visiting Orlando. The feeling of enjoying an upscale meal while a Sand Tiger Shark glides silently past your shoulder is a moment that will stay with you long after you’ve left the park.
On the food front, the restaurant performs admirably. While a couple of recent critiques suggest the kitchen may have to fight to maintain top-tier consistency with a constantly changing menu, the core offerings, such as the filet, remain solidly high-end theme park cuisine.
Final Recommendation: Absolutely make a reservation. This is not just a meal; it’s a lasting memory from your visit to SeaWorld Orlando. The immersive ambiance elevates the entire experience far beyond the cost, proving that SeaWorld Orlando has created a dining destination that is truly fin-tastic. Be prepared to pay a premium for the view, and consider sticking to the proven winners on the menu to ensure a culinary experience worthy of your silent, majestic dinner guests.
