Tried the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich at Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Here’s what worked and what fell apart.

There we were, standing proudly outside Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, located between the roar of SheiKra and the launch of Tigris. Our group was ready to dive into smoky glory. The Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich even had its spot on the menu board, but oddly, it’s nowhere to be found on the online menu, like some theme park food urban legend. We arrived in the mid-afternoon between the 11:30 a.m. opening time and the closing time.

Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens Pulled Pork Sandwich

For clarity, the official name of this menu item is the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. According to the menu board, it’s described as “Slow-smoked barbecue pulled pork served on a fresh bun.” The price? A rather steep $19.99 if you’re not using All-Day Dining or applying an annual pass member discount.

Unfortunately, Busch Gardens’ food and beverage operations were having what could only be described as “a Monday.” Ketchup and BBQ sauce dispensers? Empty. Burger patties elsewhere? Vanished into the ether. Even Tot Topia, the safest place on Earth to buy tater tots, couldn’t provide service. The whole park seemed to be in “we’ll get ‘em next time, champ” mode. By the way, we have not seen Tot Topia open during our last four visits – that may not be a good sign for this quality new quick service concept at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
When the sandwich did arrive, its appearance fell somewhere between “sad school lunch” and “Pinterest fail.” Perhaps the park had run out of buns again, because our pulled pork was perched precariously on Texas Toast that looked like it had been drafted at the last minute. One bite in, and the bread-to-meat ratio was… shocking. Imagine ordering pulled pork and receiving “bread with special guest pork.”

Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens: Pulled Pork Sandwich Review
The pork itself? Just okay. It did its job, but not in a memorable way. Even Sweet Baby Ray’s, the sauce of champions, couldn’t save the day. Still, while we’ve had far better meals at Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens in the past, this particular pulled pork experience felt like a downgrade.
The fries told the same story. At Zagora Café and Dragon Fire Grill, fries sometimes come out seasoned like the spice gods have kissed them. At Zambia Smokehouse, it felt like they were seasoned by someone who got distracted halfway through the job. Generous portions, yes. Memorable flavor, not so much.

By the halfway point, the Texas Toast gave up the fight, collapsing into a soggy heap. Our sandwich journey ended not with smoky satisfaction, but with greasy fingers and mild disappointment.
Value for Money

At $19.99, the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich sits firmly in the premium price range for quick-service theme park food. While Busch Gardens portions are typically generous, the quality here didn’t justify the cost. When bread falls apart halfway through and the meat tastes unremarkable, the sandwich stops feeling like a $20 meal and starts feeling like an expensive mistake. If you’re using All-Day Dining or stacking discounts with your annual pass, it may sting less. But at full price? Your wallet deserves better.
Final verdict: The Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich at Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens was like riding SheiKra with your eyes closed. You expect thrills, but somehow you end up just feeling bread-heavy and mildly confused. We’d like to suggest ordering the Smoked Turkey Sandwich at Zambia Smokehouse Busch Gardens.
