Disney Finally Reveals More Details About Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

The Villains Land update details are here after D23 2026, including rumored rides, dining, villains, and what’s coming to Magic Kingdom. Disney has finally pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, giving fans a much closer look at the dark new expansion coming to Walt Disney World.

The long-awaited Villains Land update was revealed at the 2026 D23 event, where Disney shared new details about the massive project teased since its original announcement in 2024. While Disney has continued to keep many of the most important details under wraps, the latest presentation provides a clearer picture of what guests can eventually expect when they venture beyond Big Thunder Mountain and into a world where the villains have taken over.
Disney first officially announced the Villains Land project at D23 in 2024. Disney originally confirmed the new area would feature two major attractions, plus dining and shopping, describing it as a dark, thorny expansion unlike anything currently at Magic Kingdom. Now, the project is moving closer to becoming a reality.
Villains Land Update: Speculation Leading Up to D23

Since the D23 2024 announcement officially confirmed two major attractions, dining, and retail set in a dark, twisted realm, the Disney theme park community has been buzzing with rumors, speculation, and detailed industry leaks. While Walt Disney Imagineering previously officially confirmed two major attractions, dining, and retail set in a dark, twisted realm, recent reports suggest the project’s scope may have grown even more ambitious.
“Going Bigger & Bolder”: The Rumored Redesign
Reports floated around that Disney executives instructed Imagineers to throw out initial blueprints and pitch “bigger and bolder” concepts. Rather than limiting the land to standard budgets, the goal is reportedly to make Villains Land a flagship magnet that can anchor Magic Kingdom’s expansion for decades. With the recent D23 Villains Land update, we received some information that matched previous official reports and other information that sounds like the recent rumors of change
Rumored Attraction Roster
While official plans cite two headliner attractions, recent leaks point to a expanded mix of experiences:
- Maleficent E-Ticket Dark Ride: Rumored to serve as the land’s centerpiece. Speculation suggests it could utilize boat-ride technology similar to Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure or a high-capacity omnimover system.
- Family Coaster: Industry buzz points toward an outdoor, story-driven family coaster, potentially themed around The Emperor’s New Groove or a wild chase through the villainous wilderness.
- Secondary Flat Ride: Rumors circulate about a third ride to help absorb crowds, such as a themed flat ride featuring Ursula or Hades.
Dining & Atmospheric Rumors
- Hades-Themed Character Dinner Show: A frequently cited rumor involves an interactive, theatrical dining experience hosted by Hades, Pain, and Panic from Hercules.
- Family-Friendly Tone: Despite dark thematic elements like “conjured architecture” and thorny landscapes, the overall atmosphere will maintain a PG, family-friendly tone typical of classic Disney animation rather than jump-scares or intense horror.
Villains Land Update: What Disney Actually Revealed at D23
Towards the end of the D23 show, the Magic Mirror materialized onstage with a mysterious message, before introducing Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum. Audience members began to whisper excitedly, as the sight of that familiar face in the glass could only mean one thing – Villains.
The Disney Imagineers said this was highly anticipated and very ambitious. They playfully said the new Villains Land will be called “Villains Land.” Creative, we know! I guess you do not mess with calling something a land in Magic Kingdom.
While Disney Imagineers were telling the D23 audience about the Villains Land update, Cruella de Vil arrived. Well, Glenn Close arrived to entertain guests. She was disappointed to learn that Maleficent was getting her own Disney attraction.
Villains Land Update: What is the Storyline?

This is what Disney said about the storyline: “It was also revealed that while the fiends you’ll find here may feel familiar since Imagineers are referencing classic characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios as inspiration, the overarching story is a brand new, original take on those iconic villains. The Magic Kingdom invites guests into a fairytale and Villains Land is no exception…
In many fairytales, the real journey begins when you stray from the safe path and instead turn towards the vast, foreboding forest. If you dare enter the forest of Villains Land, you may soon come across a Wishing Well that’s been torn asunder. Under most circumstances, a Wishing Well would indicate pure and good energy at work, but something dark happened to this one. Once upon a time, someone made an evil wish here – a wish so evil it corrupted the stone and broke open the structure, spreading the Well’s poisoned magic throughout the forest.
But of course, this sinister setting is tempting for those with wicked intentions, so, one by one, the villains have come here to try and claim the last of the Wishing Well’s power. Villains Land will be shaped by those who have used this dark magic to conjure the perfect new lairs for themselves. These mighty fortresses and gleaming palaces not only reflect the personality of the villains who own them, they invite guests into a tantalizing treasure trove of treats, trinkets, and more temptations. The size and scale were compared to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, so there will be no shortage of space to explore and enjoy a bit of mischievous fun.”
Villains Land Update: Maleficent Coaster

The Disney Imagineers told more about the storytelling behind each attraction. According to Disney, the first is a coaster experience where you will come face-to-face with the Mistress of All Evil herself: Maleficent. Guests will race through enchanted briers around her frightening mountaintop fortress. The Imagineering team teased that this coaster will include things they have never attempted before.
Mirror Realm Dark Ride in Villains Land

There’s a second headlining attraction of Villains Land based on what Disney revealed. It is a dark ride, featuring a whole array of your favorite Disney Villains – hosted by the Magic Mirror.
You’ll find the Magic Mirror where the Evil Queen keeps him in the catacombs beneath her pristine palace. After making your way to him, he’ll magically transport you into his mystical Mirror Realm to see things on the other side of the mirror. There, in his ethereal realm, guests will encounter countless Disney Villains conjured in ways only the Magic Mirror can do. A combination of special effects and physical set pieces will bring his Mirror Realm and these iconic Villains to life. Of note, this sounds similar to the basic plot of the current Disney Villains show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Of course, the new dark ride will be far grander!
Additional Villain Land Update Details
“Villains Land is such an exciting addition to the Magic Kingdom, because it allows us to expand the park’s storytelling in a way that feels both fresh and true to its legacy and fairytale roots,” Caroline May told Disney Parks Blog. “We have an incredibly talented and passionate team working behind the scenes every day to make sure this land captures the power, magic, and mischievous (and sometimes humorous) spirit of the Disney Villains, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see that fans are just as excited as we are for what’s ahead.”
“It’s going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be,” former Disney Experiences Chairman and current Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro teased at the time as preparation and planning were already underway. Today’s updates have confirmed that Imagineers are working to create a spellbinding spectacle that truly pushes the boundaries of creativity and innovation, while taking inspiration from some of the most compelling characters.
