Guests staying at Universal Orlando Resort have many hotels to choose from. Two exist fairly close to Universal Volcano Bay, the theme park resort’s well-themed water park. Cabana Bay Beach Resort literally sits only a few yards away from Universal Volcano Bay. However, if you find yourself wandering through the sleek, high-tech halls of Universal’s Aventura Hotel, you might feel like you’ve accidentally stepped onto the set of a sci-fi movie. Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration. Still, Universal’s Aventura Hotel stands as very different from most value level hotels.

Aventura is the stylish, modern high-rise of the Universal Orlando Resort family, standing tall as the “cool younger sibling” to the retro-themed Cabana Bay. It’s the perfect spot for guests who want to be steps away from Volcano Bay but prefer a vibe that says “minimalist luxury” rather than “1950s roadside motel.”

Urban Pantry

Just past the lobby sits Urban Pantry, a fast-casual food hall that ditches the standard theme park burger-and-fries routine for globally inspired stations. We’re talking wok bowls, custom pizzas, and a roast station that smells like Sunday dinner. Sure, you can get a burger here but that does not make up most of the menu. On a recent weekday lunch, we decided to steer toward the “healthy” side of life, or at least, the theme park version of it, by trying the Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad.

The Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad arrived looking like a vibrant, colorful mountain of autumn-inspired goodness. It isn’t just a pile of grain; it’s a textured landscape of roasted vegetables and seeds.

Menu Description: Red quinoa, spinach, roasted acorn squash, pepitas, dried cranberries, feta cheese, crispy onions, roasted carrots, maple – balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

Price: $12.50

Our Experience

Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad

First things first: this is a chilled dish. However, don’t go looking for it in the “grab and go” coolers. You have to order it at the station, where it is prepared in a bowl specifically for you. We visited during a quiet weekday lunch, and while the result was fresh, it did take a bit longer to be prepared than we expected for a salad. Apparently, perfection, or at least a very precise arrangement of onions, takes time.

The Cheese and Onions (a.k.a. The Stars of the Show)

Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad

If you are the type of person who thinks a salad is just a delivery vehicle for cheese, you are in luck. This bowl was packed with plenty of feta and crispy onions. The flavor from the cheese was excellent and provided a much-needed salty punch to the earthy vegetables.

The “Is It Healthy?” Dilemma

Is it healthy? Maybe… compared to a giant leg of turkey or a lard-fried donut. The Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad certainly looks the part with its red quinoa and roasted acorn squash. However, with the generous helping of cheese and those delicious crispy onions, it’s more of an “I’m trying my best” kind of healthy.

The Bowl Struggle

The portion size is surprisingly good for the price point, which is lower than many other resort food court options. In fact, it’s so generous that you will likely struggle at first to keep the Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad in the bowl as you eat it. It’s a delicate game of physics. One wrong fork-stab, and more than a few pepitas are headed for the floor.

The Quinoa Factor

Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad

Ironically, on this occasion, we thought the quinoa was actually the weakest component of the Urban Pantry Quinoa Salad. It wasn’t bad—just a bit overwhelmed. Between the crunch of the pepitas (pumpkin seeds), the sweetness of the cranberries, and the boldness of the feta, the quinoa mostly just served as the “filler” in the background. It’s like the bass player in a rock band: necessary, but you’re really here for the lead singer (the cheese).

At $12.50, this is a solid value for a fresh, filling meal at Universal Orlando Resort. Plus, if you are a preferred or premier annual passholder, you can snag a 10% discount, making it even more budget-friendly. Just be prepared to wait a bit longer for that fresh-prep feeling, and maybe bring a bib for those runaway crispy onions.
