“The Mandalorian & Grogu”
Fans learn some information about “The Mandalorian and Grogu” film during the D23 event in Anaheim, California, in August 2024. Since then, Star Wars fans have heard rumors, but nothing concrete. At the D23 event, fans saw a video clip showing the return of The Empire Strikes Back‘s AT-ATs stomping in the snow, the crazy voiced tiny alien tech Babu Frick from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and red alien, pointy eared Zeb from the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels.”
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, marking the Star Wars franchise’s return to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus. Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with Dave Filoni, the film continues the story from the Disney+ series, focusing on Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his adopted son, Grogu. Set in the New Republic era, the narrative follows the duo as they face new threats, including the possible return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen.
The cast features Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic lieutenant and Jeremy Allen White voicing Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son. Fan-favorite characters like Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and the Anzellan species are also set to appear. Filming concluded in December 2024, utilizing advanced visual effects technology to bring the Star Wars universe to life.
This film represents a strategic shift for Lucasfilm, transitioning from streaming series to theatrical releases. By bringing beloved characters to the big screen, “The Mandalorian & Grogu” aims to captivate longtime fans and newcomers, offering a fresh yet familiar adventure in the galaxy far away.
