Our Tacolate Salt & Straw review breaks down the new ice cream taco at Disney Springs. Was it worth the price or just okay? Find out here.

The brand-new Tacolate (think- “Chocolate) arrived at Salt & Straw locations nationwide on October 3. We visited that morning to give it a try. Would it enhance our love of Salt & Straw at Disney Springs or disappoint? This creation appeared after a ten-year design process. I mean…that sounds impressive to us, right? These were announced to be coming last year and got a release date of October 3, 2025

Salt & Straw Disney Springs

The Tacolate involved a partnership with Taco Bell. The Tacolate overshadowed the return of the Halloween ice cream series, which also took place on the same day. In fact, the sign that usually displays the seasonal ice cream flavors only showed a promotion for the Tacolate.

What is a Tacolate?

As the Disney Springs Salt & Straw promotional sign indicates, it is an ice cream taco. Think waffle cone in the shape of a taco with chocolate ice cream goodness inside. The official description reads like this: The Tacolate features a waffle-cone taco shell filled with cinnamon ancho chili ice cream, then dipped in single-origin chocolate and topped with toasted brown rice for crunch. Still, the magic doesn’t stop there. Each Tacolate comes with two Taco Bell-inspired sauces: Mango Jalapeño and Wildberry Cinnamon, giving dessert lovers the ultimate sweet-and-spicy experience. The Tacolate offers multiple levels of chocolate.

So, what did we experience with this highly anticipated sweet treat? Should you try it? First, we are very glad we ordered it on the first day of its arrival and got to do a Tacolate Salt & Straw review. As we sat and ate it, we concluded quickly that it was exactly what it claimed to be. This is a good waffle cone shaped like a taco with yummy chocolate on the exterior and interior.

Based on that, we appreciate the effort that Salt & Straw put into this new creation. Our group had no complaints about the flavor of the ice cream, the chocolate, or the waffle-taco shell. The two Taco Bell-inspired sauces enhance the Tacolate. Guests can adjust the flavor profile from sweet to spicy and back and forth.

Concerns: Tacolate Salt & Straw Review

Tascolate Salt & Straw Review

The Tacolate at Salt & Straw Disney Springs costs $8.50. Since initial press releases indicated these would cost $7.50, we were surprised. However, this probably serves as another example of the “Disney tax.” Still, when combined with the smaller-than-expected “taco,” our enthusiasm for the Tacolate waned.

Additionally, the promo video for this product (seen above) features an impressive-looking box containing two Taco Bell sauce packages, along with the Tacolate. We did not receive any of that.

Our box with far less practical containers of the sauces left us confused. Additionally, the Tacolate does not dip well into the sauce container. Trust us, we tried!

Although we were excited to try the Tacolate from Salt & Straw, we found ourselves underwhelmed. Sure, this creation will be a decent snack to try on the go while at Disney Springs. However, we would rather just buy a full-size waffle cone filled with Salt & Straw ice cream instead.

So, our Tacolate Salt & Straw review functions mainly as a mixed review. While we love the concept, it is not groundbreaking. Numerous examples of similar products exist, such as the Boo Batter Ice Cream Taco currently on sale at Cold Stone Creamery. We are glad we tried this on its opening day. Still, we might buy it again, but most likely the Salt & Straw standard ice cream will get our money over the Tacolate.
