T-Rex Cafe at Disney Springs remains one of the most recognizable and in-demand dining spots at Walt Disney World Resort. Known for its prehistoric theming, meteor showers, and Landry’s-style menu, this family-friendly restaurant continues to draw large crowds daily. On a recent visit, we opted for a slightly different experience by dining at the Shark Bar, the large lounge area to the left as guests enter the restaurant. Here’s what we found during our visit, along with a full review of the Grain Bowl with added chicken.

About T-Rex Cafe: Atmosphere, Reservations & What to Expect

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs is part of the Landry’s Restaurant Group, alongside Rainforest Cafe and Yak & Yeti. Guests familiar with Rainforest Cafe will already know what to expect: loud, immersive theming; a menu of theme-restaurant standards; and a dining experience geared toward families and large groups.

The interior is elaborate and intentionally chaotic, with multiple themed dining rooms, animatronics, and sound effects. Roughly every 20 minutes, the signature Meteor Shower show sequence kicks off, filling the restaurant with rumbling audio, lighting effects, and a burst of prehistoric ambiance. It can be thrilling or overwhelming depending on your party, but it’s undeniably memorable. Even from the Shark Bar, we experienced the “Meteor Shower.”

Reservation Challenges at T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

Shark Bar

Even with so many dining options at Disney Springs, T-Rex Cafe remains one of the most searched-for dining reservations on Walt Disney World’s Advance Dining Reservation (ADR) system. Getting a reservation, especially for peak dinner periods, can be surprisingly difficult. Many families place this restaurant high on their must-do list, and the limited number of large tables keeps demand high. We suggest using MouseDining to aid with this quest.

A Huge Advantage: Landry’s Select Club

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

Guests who are members of the Landry’s Select Club enjoy one significant perk: priority seating. Even without an ADR, Landry’s members can check in and often be seated faster than the general waitlist. For some guests, this perk alone justifies the membership fee, especially at high-demand locations like T-Rex Cafe and Rainforest Cafe at Disney Springs.

The Landry’s Select Club (LSC) is a nationwide, multi-concept loyalty program designed to reward guests for dining, shopping, and staying at Landry’s, Inc.’s diverse portfolio of restaurants, hospitality, gaming, and entertainment venues.

For a one-time $25 membership fee, members receive a range of benefits. The core reward system allows members to earn one point for every dollar spent at participating locations. Once a member accumulates 250 points, they automatically receive a $25 Reward to use on a future visit.

Key benefits include a $25 Welcome Reward upon joining and a $25 Birthday Reward annually. LSC members also enjoy priority seating at over 600 locations, exclusive hotel and retail discounts, and special offers. Popular participating brands include Morton’s The Steakhouse, Chart House, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Rainforest Cafe, and Saltgrass Steak House.

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs: Dining at the Shark Bar

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

Since we visited on a weekday afternoon, we could have opted for a walk-up table in the main dining areas. Instead, we chose to eat at the Shark Bar, the large lounge area just inside the entrance. This turned out to be a great choice.

Atmosphere

The Shark Bar offers:

  • Plenty of bar seating
  • Multiple nearby tables, great for small groups
  • A calmer environment than the main dining rooms
  • Dim lighting, typical of T-Rex Cafe, meaning your meal may be a little hard to see at times

Behind the bar sits a full aquarium, and guests can ask for a small fish-viewing guide to identify species—an unexpectedly fun touch.

The bar area still participates in the Meteor Shower experience, so every 15- 20 minutes, the lighting shifts and the rumbling sound rolls through. However, the bar feels less chaotic than the rest of the restaurant, making it a pleasant alternative for adults or small groups who might not need the whole themed dining room spectacle.

Food Review: Grain Bowl with Added Chicken

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

Grain Bowl
Barley, wheat berries, wild rice, red and white quinoa, oven-roasted vegetables, citrus vinaigrette
$22.99
With Chicken: $26.99
With Shrimp: $28.99

For this visit, we ordered the Grain Bowl and chose to add chicken for an additional charge. The dish arrived at our table very warm, which we always appreciate, especially in a dimly lit environment where you sometimes can’t see much beyond the glow of the bar lights.

Portion & Value

With the chicken addition, the portion looked substantial and felt like a reasonable value for Disney Springs. The added protein helped round out the dish, offering a welcome change in texture and flavor. For the record, Walt Disney World annual passholders do get a 10% discount here, as long as they do not use their Landry’s Select Club perks.

Flavor & Quality

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

As expected with T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs, the food quality is solid but not standout. It fits the profile of a themed chain restaurant: satisfying and familiar, though rarely competing with the more elevated culinary experiences around Disney Springs. In fairness, this type of dish focuses on themed dining nutrition, so one should not expect amazing, robust flavors. As stated, food quality is fine. However, better options for dining exist at Disney Springs.

The Grain Bowl’s seasoning was decent, light, citrusy, and pleasant enough. However, it is unlikely to wow guests who frequent the newer or more adventurous locations nearby. Still, the chicken complemented the bowl well, making the entire dish feel more complete.

Vegetables: Mixed Execution

Our group felt that the zucchini and broccoli were slightly underprepared. While not ideal, this is still better than vegetables arriving overcooked and mushy. The remaining oven-roasted vegetables worked nicely and blended well with the grain mix.

Shareability

With the addition of chicken, the Grain Bowl could be sharable, depending on your group and whether you plan to order additional items or appetizers.

T-Rex Cafe Disney Springs

T-Rex Cafe remains a crowd favorite at Disney Springs, drawing families with its immersive theming and lively atmosphere. While the food seldom competes with Disney Springs’ top-tier dining options, the experience remains the real star. For guests who want a more relaxed version of the T-Rex Cafe visit, the Shark Bar is a strong option, offering the full theming with less chaos and easier seating during off-peak times.

If you’re planning a visit and can’t secure an ADR, or simply prefer flexibility, joining the Landry’s Select Club can make your experience far smoother. Still, while the Grain Bowl won’t convert T-Rex Cafe skeptics, the added chicken made for a hearty, warm, and satisfying meal that worked well for our afternoon visit.
