Portillo’s is officially turning up the heat this month. The iconic fast-casual chain has announced the debut of the Hot & Saucy Italian Beef Sandwich, a spicy evolution of its Chicago classic. Available nationwide through May 31, this limited-time offering is designed for fans looking to add a serious kick to their routine.

This hot italian beef sandwich features Portillo’s signature house-made, slow-roasted Italian beef, but with a double dose of heat. It is topped with traditional hot Giardiniera peppers and the brand’s newly launched creamy hot Giardiniera sauce, all served on fresh Turano French bread.
“With consumer interest in spicier, more adventurous flavors continuing to grow, we leaned in with twice the spice on Portillo’s signature sandwich,” said Denise Lauer, chief marketing officer for Portillo’s. “This sandwich is our classic Italian Beef, turned up with more heat and more kick for a craveworthy take on the unrivaled flavors of Portillo’s.”
This launch marks the first major innovation for the Italian Beef lineup since 2020. According to recent industry data from Datassential, 65% of Americans enjoy spicy food, with nearly half of younger diners opting for spicy versions of original dishes. By incorporating globally inspired heat such as pepper relishes and zesty sauces, Portillo’s is tapping into a major culinary trend.
