If you thought Disney fans couldn’t get any more dedicated, this story might change your mind. A 36-year-old from Tucson has made headlines as a Monsters Inc fan by legally changing her last name to honor one of the film’s most beloved characters.

Meet Laura, the Ultimate Monsters Inc Fan

Laura has been a Monsters Inc fan since the movie first hit theaters in 2001. Her home has become a living tribute to the world of Monstropolis, featuring life-size models of Mike and Sulley, themed furniture, and a massive collection of memorabilia. She estimates she’s spent tens of thousands of dollars cultivating her Pixar-inspired environment. Sullivan said: “I do try hard to find savings where I can though but I have been collecting since 2001 so in 24 years it’s tens of thousands of dollars.”

A Name That Matches the Magic

After a divorce in 2023, Laura took the bold step of legally changing her surname to “Sullivan,” in honor of James P. “Sulley” Sullivan. Her partner has also adopted the Sullivan name, creating a family fully committed to the fandom. “It’s not just décor — it’s who I am,” she told reporters, reflecting the deep connection she feels as a Monsters Inc fan. Sullivan, a pharmacist based in Tuscon, Arizona, said: “I have loved Monsters, Inc. ever since the movie first came out.”

Sullivan also told reporters that, “Basically anything and everything you can think of relating to Monsters Inc I enjoy. “I also have ADHD, so this probably started out as a hyperfixation.”

When Sullivan was a child, her mother worked at the Disney Store and often brought home merchandise for Sullivan and her brother. After Monsters, Inc. came out, she started bringing home Boo plushies and memorabilia for Sullivan and other characters for her brother.

Sullivan intends to keep collecting for as long as she can, ultimately aiming for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
