Busch Gardens Makes Iron Gwazi Lockers Free for Two Hours

Iron Gwazi free lockers are here. Busch Gardens now offers up to two hours of free storage, and we break down what riders should know.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay just delivered one of the year’s most requested fixes for riders. Iron Gwazi free lockers are now a reality, with the park announcing that lockers at the coaster are free for up to two hours. After guests called the old setup a paywall when the metal detectors arrived, this change is welcome.
The news came from the official Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Instagram account, and the caption opens with “We heard you.” Yes, they did. We were among the people saying it.
Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Iron Gwazi, located at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, is North America’s tallest hybrid roller coaster and the fastest and steepest of its kind in the world. Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC), this thrilling coaster transformed the park’s former wooden Gwazi structure into a sleek steel-tracked masterpiece.
Rising to a towering height of 206 feet, riders face a terrifying 91-degree, near-vertical drop. The coaster reaches speeds of 76 mph along 4,075 feet of purple track, packing in 12 airtime-inducing hills and heart-pounding inversions. Now, the “paywall” has been removed! With the paywall gone, even we rode it today!
What Busch Gardens Said About Iron Gwazi Lockers

In the reel, the park said guests spoke and it listened, and that Iron Gwazi lockers are now free for up to two hours. Busch Gardens framed the change as a way to “leave the stuff, feel the thrills,” so riders can focus on the ride itself.
The caption doesn’t say what happens after the two hours are up, whether the free time applies to every locker size, or whether the paid day rental is changing. However, we visited, and the signage indicates it is $1 for each additional hour. There is also the all-day locker option, which allows guests to move their stuff between lockers within Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
Why Iron Gwazi Free Lockers Matter

When we covered the arrival of the Iron Gwazi metal detectors in December 2025, the locker situation was our biggest complaint. At the time, no lockers were free. A small locker cost $4 for one ride, or $12 for a day rental that could move from ride to ride, and larger lockers cost more. Many guests called the setup unfair, and some described it as a new paywall at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. We agreed.
The metal detectors made lockers less of a convenience and more of a requirement. If your phone, keys, or wallet cannot go on the ride, and nobody in your group wants to be the designated bag holder, you need somewhere to put them. Charging for that somewhere was the part that rubbed people the wrong way.
So credit where it is due. The new system does remove the most obvious sore spot. We will resist a full victory lap, but we are allowed a small one around the locker area.

One caution. Price was not our only complaint in December. We also described the locker area as cramped and congested, with riders funneled into a small space to get back to their lockers after the ride. Free lockers could mean more people using them, so we’ll watch whether the area holds up on busy days.
Iron Gwazi Free Lockers: What Riders Should Know

- Free for up to two hours, according to the Busch Gardens announcement.
- Watch the clock. A long queue, the ride, and the walk back could add up on a busy day,
- Leaving your items with someone who is not riding is still an option if your group prefers it.
A Busy Stretch for Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

The Iron Gwazi free locker news lands amid a lot of change at the park. Former Busch Gardens Tampa Bay park president Jon Vigue is no longer with the company after being introduced in June. Also, we reported that Brad Gilmore, who leads SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, and Discovery Cove, is expected to take on Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island as well. As of our most recent update, United Parks & Resorts has not officially confirmed either move. Read our full coverage of Jon Vigue leaving Busch Gardens.
Construction is also underway. Project Driftwood, the replacement for Stanley Falls Flume, showed up in a permit filing with a budget of roughly $16.5 million. That coverage also noted that the old Stanley Falls locker building now serves as overflow queue space for SheiKra. Lockers and ride changes, it seems, go hand in hand around here.

If you are heading out this fall, there is plenty to do. The Busch Gardens Halloween Spooktacular runs on weekends through November 1, 2026 and is included with park admission. Howl-O-Scream runs on select nights through October 31, and Anaconda: Fear Has No Escape held the top spot in our week two haunted house rankings. When we last covered it, the park was also offering a limited-time 2027 Fun Card for $114.99 that includes the rest of 2026.
Busch Gardens said it heard its guests, and on lockers it did. The Iron Gwazi free lockers for up to two hours makes a real improvement over paying $4 every time you want to ride one coaster. For more theme park-related news and information, visit MSM News.
