Universal Orlando’s HHN 2025 Stay & Scream brings freedom to roam, early house access, and a smoother start to your night of scares.

HHN 2025 Stay & SCream

For many seasoned Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) fans, Stay & Scream is as much a part of the tradition as the haunted houses themselves. This early-entry program allows guests already inside Universal Studios Florida before HHN officially begins to get a head start on the screams. For 2025, Universal has reimagined the entire process, ditching the old “holding pens” and replacing them with a far more flexible and guest-friendly setup. Here’s everything you need to know about the changes and how to make the most of them.

What Is Stay & Scream?

Stay & Scream is Universal’s way of rewarding guests who are already in the park before the nighttime event begins. Traditionally, guests with valid HHN admission and daytime park access could remain inside Universal Studios Florida when it closed to day guests. They would be directed into designated “holding areas” until HHN began, at which point they’d be released toward certain haunted houses before the general admission crowds were let in.

While the idea was great for hitting a house or two with shorter waits, the reality wasn’t always pleasant. Holding pens could be cramped, uncomfortable, and not precisely the best way to kick off an evening of fun. That’s what makes 2025’s changes such a big deal.

The 2025 Overhaul – Goodbye Pens, Hello Freedom

HHN 2025 Stay & Scream

This year, Universal is introducing a wristband-based early entry system. Guests can begin checking in for Stay & Scream starting at 3:00 p.m. if they have:

  • Both a valid HHN ticket and a daytime park ticket (or Annual Pass), or
  • The separate Scream Early add-on ticket.

Once checked in, you’ll receive a Stay & Scream wristband. This is your key to early event access.

Here’s the best part: no more holding areas. Instead of being corralled in a small section of the park, wristband holders are now free to roam the park before the event officially begins. You can grab a snack, do some shopping, ride an attraction, or even scope out some of the scare zones before the fog machines start pumping.

Check-In Locations for HHN 2025 Stay & Scream

You can pick up your wristband at three convenient locations:

  • Lombard’s Seafood Grill
  • Illumination’s Minion Café
  • Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast

These spots are strategically placed, giving guests options depending on where they want to start their evening.

Early Access to Haunted Houses

Halloween Horror Nights

Wristband holders can begin entering select haunted house queues as early as 4:00 p.m. While Universal hasn’t officially confirmed exact start times for specific houses, early reports suggest some will begin operation between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. For example:

  • Fallout could open around 5:15 p.m.
  • Terrifier might start around 5:30 p.m.

These early entries mean you could knock out a major headliner before the gates even open for the general public.

Why This Is a Game-Changer

The new Stay & Scream format completely changes the early evening experience:

  • Freedom to explore – You’re not stuck standing around; you can enjoy the park atmosphere.
  • Better use of time – Shop for event merch, enjoy themed food and drinks, or hit an attraction before the crowds.
  • Strategic house runs – Get into a popular house early, saving valuable time for later in the night.
  • More relaxed vibe – Starting the evening without being jammed shoulder-to-shoulder in a holding area is a huge win.

Pro Tips for HHN 2025 Stay & Scream

  1. Arrive Early – If you’re serious about maximizing house count, be at the park before 3:00 p.m. to check in and get your wristband quickly.
  2. Plan Your House Order – Target one of the big-name IP houses first to save yourself a 90+ minute wait later.
  3. Eat Before the Crowds – Grab dinner or snacks during the 3:00–5:00 p.m. window to avoid peak food lines later in the night.
  4. Scope the MerchHHN’s limited-edition items often sell out. Use your early time to browse without the chaos of opening rush.

HHN 2025 Stay & Scream

Universal Orlando’s HHN 2025 Stay & Scream changes make the process more flexible, more comfortable, and—most importantly—potentially more fun. By removing the restrictive holding areas and replacing them with a roam-at-will wristband system, the event feels more like an extension of the day rather than a pause before the party. Whether you’re an HHN veteran or a first-timer, this new system is worth taking advantage of. It’s a better way to start your night of frights—and gives you a strategic leg up on tackling every haunted house on your must-do list.

Halloween Horror Nights runs select nights through the fall at Universal Studios Florida. If you plan it right, Stay & Scream might just become your favorite “first scare” of the night.
