The Rewind Dining Review: Eggo Massacre at Howl-O-Scream Orlando

We tried the Eggo Massacre at The Rewind, Howl-O-Scream Orlando’s new marketplace stop, and it’s a messy, average-tasting seasonal treat. Yes, we got a first look and taste of The Rewind’s Chicken Eggo Waffles (aka the Eggo Massacre) at Howl-O-Scream Orlando: Eggo waffles, crispy chicken, bacon, and maple chili syrup.

Howl-O-Scream Orlando’s newest marketplace stop, The Rewind (location #2 on the event map), leans hard into an 80s/90s video store aesthetic, and its signature dish wants you to feel like you just paused a VHS tape mid-bite. At the Scream and Sweat media preview, it’s simply called Chicken Eggo Waffles, though we had seen it teased in promo materials under the far more dramatic name Eggo Massacre. Same dish, two names, one very sticky plate.

Eggo Massacre: What’s Actually On The Plate

The build is straightforward on paper: a base of Eggo waffles, a layer of breaded crispy chicken, a few strips of bacon, and a maple chili syrup poured over the whole stack. It arrives on a plate swimming with a piped swirl of purple frosting on top and a gummy garnish skewered on a stick for good measure. It’s less a breakfast plate and more a dare.

Eggo Massacre: The Eleven Problem

We’ll say it before you do: a chicken-and-waffles tower buried in syrup, topped with a swirl of purple and finished with a candy-covered stick, looks exactly like something Eleven would demolish in the Hopper’s kitchen between psychic nosebleeds. It’s got that unapologetic ‘kid raiding the fridge at 2 a.m.’ energy that Stranger Things has built an entire snack-based subplot around.

One correction before anyone starts googling showtimes: if you came to SeaWorld Orlando hoping to walk through a Stranger Things haunted house this year, you’re at the wrong park. Stranger Things 5 is a house over at Halloween Horror Nights, not Howl-O-Scream Orlando. The Eggo Massacre jokes are as close as this event gets to the Upside Down.

Eggo Massacre: How It Tastes

Taste-wise, this one lands squarely in the middle of the road. The chicken is fine, the waffles are fine, the bacon is fine, and the maple chili syrup adds a mild warmth without much real heat. Nothing here is bad, but nothing jumps out as a must-order either; it’s an average tasting dish that leans on its presentation more than its flavor.

The dish comes warm and is made to order, which is nice. Despite the chicken portion being a good size and reasonably tasty, it was a challenge to cut with the plastic knife. That is never a good sign for a $14.99 theme park food item.

Where it does deliver is on mess. Between the syrup pool on the plate, the soft frosting swirl, and a stack taller than it is stable, this isn’t a tidy walk-and-eat item. Bring napkins, and maybe don’t wear white.

Also, stating the obvious: this is a syrup-soaked waffle stack topped with frosting and candy. It’s a fun seasonal treat, not health food, and no one making it would tell you otherwise.

A Few Opening Night Caveats

Eggo Massacre Howl-O-Scream

The Rewind is a brand-new location for Howl-O-Scream Orlando this year, and this review reflects an opening night visit. New locations tend to work out early kinks in pacing, portioning, and consistency once the team settles in, so your experience later in the event could look a little different from mine, hopefully for the better. So, whether it is an Eggo Massacre or just Chicken Eggo Waffles, we wish you luck.
