Our Dragon Fire Grill pasta review covers the blackened chicken penne bowl, portion size, flavor, and seating issues at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

During our latest stop at Dragon Fire Grill in Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, we returned to the customizable Penne Pasta Bowl. This time, opting for blackened chicken with alfredo sauce. Our last visit featured meatballs and marinara, so we were curious to see how this alternative stacked up.

What Is Dragon Fire Grill?

Dragon Fire Grill Pasta

Dragon Fire Grill serves as Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s largest indoor quick-service dining location, offering a food-court style setup with multiple stations guests can choose from. It’s designed to provide a variety of cuisines under one roof, making it a convenient stop for families or groups wanting different meal options.

Station Variety

While station availability can vary throughout the year, Dragon Fire Grill typically features:

  • Italian Station – Customize-your-own pasta bowls with choices of noodles, sauces, and proteins like chicken or meatballs. This station also offers pizza
  • Asian Wok Station – Stir-fries, teriyaki dishes, and rice bowls.
  • Tex-Mex Station – Tacos, bowls, or burritos depending on the season.
  • Classic American Station – Burgers, chicken tenders, and fries.
  • Seasonal & Event Additions – During festivals or holidays, temporary menus may be added.

Ambiance & Seating

Dragon Fire Grill

The venue is large and climate-controlled, making it a popular escape from the Florida heat. However, for the holiday season, Busch Gardens has rearranged the seating layout, which, according to both guests and ambassadors, has created tighter walkways and limited mobility space for wheelchairs, scooters, and ECVs.

Despite the layout challenges, the venue continues to be one of the park’s primary dining hubs thanks to its variety and All-Day Dining Plan compatibility.

Dragon Fire Grill Pasta: Price & Setting

Dragon Fire Grill Pasta

The pasta bowl rings up at $18.99 for guests not using the All-Day Dining Plan. Before we even reached the food itself, though, the new holiday seating layout in Dragon Fire Grill made a noticeable impact. Guests in wheelchairs, scooters, and ECVs appeared to struggle navigating the tight configuration, and ambassadors we spoke with admitted it made cleaning and movement around the space far more difficult. Not the most festive change.

First Impressions

The pasta carried a mild, pleasant aroma, but visually, it was… fine. Nothing Instagram-worthy, and notably lighter on pasta and chicken compared to our previous meatball visit. What it did have in abundance, however, was alfredo sauce—lots of it.

How Did It Taste?

Dragon Fire Grill Pasta

Here’s where the dish hit some rough patches:

The Chicken

Dry.
And we don’t say that lightly. Even by theme park quick-service standards, the blackened chicken lacked moisture. The seasoning was acceptable, a base-level blackening that provides flavor but not much personality.

The Alfredo

The sauce tasted exactly like you expect a theme park alfredo to taste: not bad, not great, just present. Since we received a generous amount, the pasta initially felt smothered, but as we kept eating, the penne absorbed the sauce, leveling things out. So in the end, the amount might have been just right—after some excavation.

The Pasta

The portion size of the Dragon Fire Grill pasta was decent, offering a fair value as a middle-of-the-day meal. However, the flavor profile didn’t bring any wow factor. It filled us up, sure, but it didn’t excite us.

Dragon Fire Grill Pasta Review

The Penne Pasta Bowl at Dragon Fire Grill remains a reliable, customizable option, but based on this visit, it won’t be climbing anyone’s must-eat list. The dish functions just fine as fuel for your Busch Gardens Tampa Bay day, but that’s about where the excitement ends.

If you’re using the All-Day Dining Plan, it’s a reasonable pick. For cash buyers? There may be more flavorful options around the park.
