Magic Kingdom Plant-Based Review: Price vs Quality at The Plaza Restaurant

The Chili Impossible Burger at The Plaza Restaurant comes with a $27 price tag. Is the $27 Impossible Chili Burger at The Plaza Restaurant worth the premium price? We break down the structural failures and value concerns in our latest Magic Kingdom review.
Located at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., opposite The Crystal Palace, The Plaza Restaurant offers diners a cozy, step-back-in-time experience with panoramic views of Cinderella Castle. Decorated in an elegant Victorian style complete with brass accents, delicate glass chandeliers, and soft pastel finishes, this intimate table-service spot captures the timeless charm of early 20th-century America. It remains a beloved classic for guests who want to escape the park’s bustle without sacrificing prime castle views.
The Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom

While the setting feels refined, the menu centers around approachable, classic American comfort food. Known best for its hearty sandwiches, crispy fries, and old-fashioned hand-dipped milkshakes, The Plaza Restaurant bridges the gap between quick-service casual dining and full table-service elegance. Whether you are stopping in for a mid-day ice cream sundae or sitting down for a family dinner, the nostalgia and warm hospitality make it a staple of the Magic Kingdom experience. However, the dining space is small so expect to be close to your neighbors.

The Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom has long been a favorite for guests seeking a turn-of-the-century Victorian atmosphere paired with classic American comfort food. Its prime location at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., offers some of the best views of Cinderella Castle in the park. However, as menu prices continue to climb, the expectations for quality and execution have risen alongside them.
During a recent visit, we sat down to try the Chili Impossible Burger. While Walt Disney World has earned a stellar reputation for its handling of Impossible branded plant-based meats, this specific entree left us questioning its place on the menu. At a premium price point, the structural failures and inconsistent preparation make it a difficult item to recommend.
The Chili Impossible Burger $27 Price Point: A Premium for Comfort

The Chili Impossible Burger is currently priced at $27.00. To put that into perspective, you are paying a significant premium over quick-service alternatives. For example, a standard plant-based patty melt at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe will set you back roughly $14.00. That price jump means the food itself at The Plaza Restaurant should be substantially better, right?
At $27.00, this burger enters the territory of the “all-you-care-to-enjoy” feast at Liberty Tree Tavern, which sits at $45.00 for a massive multi-course meal, which includes a beverage. When a single burger costs more than half of a full Thanksgiving-style banquet, the execution needs to be flawless. Unfortunately, during our visit, it was anything but.
Chili Impossible Burger: Anatomy of an Execution Failure

The Chili Impossible Burger consists of an Impossible Burger patty topped with plant-based chili, pico de gall, and plant-based cheddar, all served on a potato roll. On paper, this is a plant-based diner’s dream: a hearty, savory, and multi-textured meal.
In practice, the dish suffers from what we call “The Soggy Bun Syndrome.” The combination of the heavy, moisture-rich plant-based chili and the acidic pico de gall creates a structural nightmare for the soft potato roll. Within minutes of arriving at the table, the bottom bun had completely surrendered to the moisture.
This structural failure isn’t just a minor inconvenience; it fundamentally changes the dining experience. A burger is meant to be held, but this iteration is “incredibly slippery” and quickly becomes “slimy.”. Many guests, ourselves included, found it necessary to resort to a knife and fork just to manage the mess. This “mushy” texture is a recurring issue with several of the sauce-heavy items at The Plaza Restaurant.
Better Plant-Based Values in Magic Kingdom

While Disney’s plant-based team usually excels at creating innovative dishes, the Chili Impossible Burger feels like a rare miss in terms of value. If you are looking for a high-quality plant-based meal in the Magic Kingdom, there are more consistent options available:
- Liberty Tree Tavern: For a fixed price, you get a full plant-based feast including Impossible Meatloaf and Johnny Appleseed’s Warm Apple Cake. The value here is significantly higher for those with a larger appetite.
- Columbia Harbour House: The plant-based options here are more affordable and often better prepared than the higher-priced table service counterparts.
- Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe: If you just want a solid Impossible burger without the $27 price tag, the quick-service version is more manageable and won’t leave your wallet (or your hands) feeling as empty.
The Plaza Restaurant: Strategy for Your Visit
If you still have your heart set on dining at The Plaza Restaurant, we recommend steering toward some of the more traditional classics. The restaurant’s strength has always been in its simpler Americana fare and its legendary milkshakes. If you do order the Chili Impossible Burger, our best advice is to request the pico de gallo on the side. This may help preserve the integrity of the bun for a few extra minutes, though it won’t entirely solve the moisture issue from the chili.
Chili Impossible Burger: A Hard Recommendation to Make

The Plaza Restaurant remains a beautiful and nostalgic place to dine, and for many, the atmosphere alone is worth the reservation. However, in the case of the Chili Impossible Burger, the food does not live up to the $27.00 asking price. Between the poorly prepared, soggy roll and the messy execution, it is hard to recommend this burger when so many other excellent plant-based options exist just a few steps away. For now, we suggest skipping the burger and sticking to the views.
