AMC Entertainment today announced a spectacularly successful opening week, driven overwhelmingly by Universal’s highly anticipated film, Wicked: For Good. More than 4.5 million guests visited AMC Theatres and ODEON Cinemas globally from Monday through Sunday, with approximately two-thirds of those attendees choosing to view Wicked: For Good. The global attendance totaled over 3.3 million in the U.S. and more than 1.2 million internationally. The film’s performance marks a significant win for the theatrical experience, posting meaningful results across admissions, food and beverage, merchandise, and special-event attendance, further cementing AMC’s position as the premier destination for must-see cinematic events.

AMC Wicked: For Good – Key Performance Highlights:

  • Record-Setting Admissions: Wicked: For Good delivered AMC’s biggest opening weekend for a PG- or G-rated movie in the U.S. since early 2023.
  • Top Theatres: AMC Theatres accounted for all of the top 7 theatres in the U.S. and Canada for admissions revenue for the film.
  • Merchandise Program: The movie’s opening-weekend merchandise success made it AMC’s top opening-weekend program of 2025. Popular AMC-exclusive items included the Glinda Light-Up Bubble Popcorn Bucket and the Grimmerie Popcorn Tin.
  • Special Events: The special Wicked Double Feature event held on Thursday, November 20, became AMC’s highest-attended double feature of the entire decade.

AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron extended his congratulations to the filmmakers and studio partners, commenting, “When a film offers spectacle, emotion, and memorable storytelling, guests regularly choose AMC to experience it. Our state-of-the-art presentation, wide range of premium formats, committed theatre teams, and inspired merchandise programs all contributed to fans being able to fully engage beyond measure with the world of Wicked.”

Aron noted that the film’s opening-week success exceeded last year’s performance and set a new merchandise record for the company in 2025. With a strong slate of family-focused tentpole titles on the horizon, AMC looks forward to building on this impressive momentum throughout the remainder of the year with the AMC Wicked: For Good success. AMC already has big plans for Avatar: Fire & Ash, including an announced popcorn bucket. Of course, we should not forget about the Five Nights at Freddy’s and Zootopia 2 popcorn buckets and collectibles.
