When it comes to memorable meals at Walt Disney World, few restaurants are as beloved, atmospheric, and family-focused as ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Known for its all-you-care-to-enjoy Hawaiian-inspired feasts, sweeping views of Magic Kingdom, and the spirit of “ohana” — meaning family,  this dining destination combines tropical flavors, warm hospitality, and immersive storytelling to create a one-of-a-kind Disney experience.

Whether you’re staying at the resort or traveling from another part of Walt Disney World, dining at ‘Ohana feels like a mini-vacation within your vacation.  In this article, we will explain the basics of the breakfast experience at ‘Ohana. Additionally, we will explore the cultural roots behind its theming, offer tips for snagging a reservation, and share our recent breakfast experience.

The Setting: A Taste of the South Pacific

'Ohana Breakfast Disney

Located on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, ‘Ohana overlooks the lush, tiki-inspired landscaping that makes this resort one of the most immersive on Disney property. With open wood-beamed ceilings, hanging plants, and decorative Polynesian elements, the restaurant’s design evokes a rustic island gathering space, making guests feel warm, communal, and welcoming.

The word ‘ohana translates from Hawaiian as “family,” but in Disney’s adaptation, the meaning expands to embrace the idea that nobody gets left behind or forgotten, a sentiment popularized by Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. That spirit runs through every part of the ‘Ohana dining experience. Guests receive extended family treatment in a good way!

The restaurant’s open layout allows guests to see the giant wood-fired grills where skewers of sizzling meats are prepared, adding energy and aroma to the atmosphere. Window-side tables offer views of the Seven Seas Lagoon. Many fans consider ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney a must-do thanks to its tropical setting and beloved characters.

Breakfast at ‘Ohana: A Character Meal with Island Flair

'Ohana Breakfast Disney

Breakfast at ‘Ohana is served family-style. Walt Disney World calls it the “Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo & Stitch.” This popular character dining experience is a favorite among families and a highlight for fans of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, who get to meet characters like Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto, all decked out in tropical attire.

Unlike buffet-style breakfasts, the meal is brought directly to your table and includes a hearty platter of traditional and tropical breakfast favorites. Dishes typically include:

  • Scrambled eggs
  • Pork sausages
  • Thick-sliced bacon (you may have to special request these from your server)
  • Fried island-style potatoes
  • Mickey and Stitch-shaped waffles
  • Seasonal fruit and pineapple-coconut breakfast bread
  • Hawaiian-style Ham topped with Pineapple Compote
  • Biscuits

Guests are welcomed with fresh pineapple-coconut bread, which has become a cult favorite. Sweet and fluffy with a hint of island flavor, it’s a treat you won’t find elsewhere at Disney. The breakfast includes unlimited refills, and cast members are happy to customize servings to fit dietary needs. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available upon request.

The ‘Ohana breakfast costs $53 per adult, plus tax and gratuity, and $33.00 per child (Guests ages 3-9), plus tax and gratuity. Walt Disney World annual pass discount of 10% applies here.

Thematic Consistency and Cultural Homage

'Ohana Breakfast Disney

Disney Imagineers took great care in designing ‘Ohana and the rest of the Polynesian Village Resort to reflect the beauty and traditions of South Pacific Island cultures. While it’s important to remember that the resort and its restaurant are Disney interpretations rather than direct replicas of any one culture, the theming respectfully nods to Polynesian heritage, primarily through its use of architecture, music, and cuisine.

The name ‘Ohana reinforces the restaurant’s core stated value, togetherness. Large communal tables and platters encourage family-style dining, fostering a sense of shared experience.

Our Dining Experience at ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney World

'Ohana Breakfast Disney

We have visited ‘Ohana for breakfast several times over the last year or so. On the morning of July 4, we visited the ‘Ohana breakfast. Would it be the perfect way to start our theme park day?

We arrived early, parking at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Guests with advanced dining reservations at ‘Ohana or Kona Café should be aware that significant construction is going on regarding the parking at this Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Parking may be a challenge, causing guests to park farther away than they would like.

We checked in online at exactly 11:40 a.m. for our noon advance dining reservation. As expected, Disney’s Polynesian Resort was really busy, as often happens. We were seated at 12:32 p.m. due to the busyness and the sense of chaos that morning.

However, we quickly received our pineapple-coconut breakfast bread and fruit along with the POG juice. We ordered additional beverages like coffee and Diet Coke (no Coke Zero Sugar at ‘Ohana). At 12:43 p.m., they arrived. Our breakfast skillets arrived at our table around 12:50 p.m.

The Food at ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney World

On this day, the fruit and bread were of good quality. However, they lacked the usual quality found at an ‘Ohana breakfast. As a result, we did not eat much of that. Still, during previous visits, we ate perhaps way too much bread and fruit during an ‘Ohana breakfast.

The Mickey and Stitch waffles brought the expected flavor that Disney fans love. Our table ate several servings of the waffles. I mean, everybody likes a Mickey (or Stitch) waffle, right?

'Ohana Breakfast Disney

We requested bacon with our ‘Ohana breakfast. Almost always, the breakfast skillet will not come with bacon. However, almost always, if guests ask for bacon, the cast member will bring some to their table. The bacon at ‘Ohana tastes like standard Disney bacon. In other words, the bacon will be at least above-average bacon. On this visit, we enjoyed the bacon.

On the less positive side, some slices of ham came with very little pineapple glaze or compote. Without that aspect, the ham at the ‘Ohana breakfast tastes like ham at every other Walt Disney World breakfast. Likewise, the sausage links taste like standard Disney table-service sausage.

However, the eggs at ‘Ohana possess extra flavor over standard eggs at most restaurants. This probably relates to the amount of cream added to the eggs during the preparation process.

In general, ‘Ohana breakfast provides guests with a good, solid, all-you-care-to-enjoy meal. However, it fails to be worth $53 per adult.

Great Character Interactions at ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney World

‘Ohana Breakfast Disney

What makes the ‘Ohana breakfast worth the high price relates to the Disney characters. ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney offers one of the most immersive character dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World. At ‘Ohana’s Best Friends Breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, guests are treated to more than just delicious island-inspired food. They also enjoy a character dining experience featuring Disney favorites. The breakfast is hosted by Lilo and Stitch, two fan-favorite characters from “Disney’s Lilo & Stitch,” making it one of the few places at Walt Disney World where guests can meet this dynamic duo together.

One of the best parts of ‘Ohana Breakfast Disney is the chance to meet Lilo and Stitch without long wait times. During the meal, Stitch brings his mischievous energy to each table, often striking silly poses and goofing around with guests, especially kids. Lilo offers a warm and friendly contrast, taking time to greet guests with a genuine aloha spirit. In addition to the Hawaiian duo, Mickey Mouse himself often joins the party, dressed in vacation attire, along with Pluto, who adds a playful and cuddly touch to the experience.

These character interactions occur throughout the meal, providing each table with the opportunity for photos, autographs, and personal attention without the need to wait in long lines. There’s also a fun “ohana” family parade around the restaurant, where children are invited to march along with the characters while island music plays.

The character breakfast at ‘Ohana is more than just a meal. It’s a festive, immersive experience that combines Polynesian hospitality with Disney magic. Families especially appreciate the setting and the chance to start their day at Magic Kingdom Resort Area with cherished Disney friends.
