Try the Plato de Queso Manchego at Jaleo Disney Springs, an authentic Spanish tapas plate featuring rich, unpasteurized Manchego cheese from La Mancha.

Plato de queos Manchego

Located in Disney Springs’ West Side at Walt Disney World, Jaleo by José Andrés is a culinary portal to Spain’s vibrant tapas culture. One standout from its menu is the Plato de queso Manchego, a carefully sourced, unpasteurized sheep’s milk cheese hailing from La Mancha.

Some Disney Springs guests form a poor opinion of Jaleo due to a lack of preparation or unfamiliarity with the restaurant’s style. Jaleo focuses on Spanish tapas-style dining. Since this style of dining involves food items being served as the kitchen finishes them, it throws off guests who are accustomed to a standard appetizer followed by an entrée pattern.

Why Manchego Cheese Confuses Some Guests at Jaleo

Additionally, diners examine the menu, recognizing certain words and associating them with other cuisine styles. For example, one appetizer-style menu item at Jaleo confuses some guests. They see the word “queso” and visualize some Tex-Mex cheese dip. Since the Spanish word for cheese is “Queso,” when these same guests order the Plato de queso Manchengo, it leads to issues.

If you’re expecting queso dip, think again — at Jaleo, queso means beautifully aged cheese, not a Tex-Mex appetizer. While many American diners associate “queso” with a warm, gooey cheese dip, in Spain, queso refers to traditional cheeses, such as Manchego, often served sliced with bread or accompaniments.

What Is Plato de Queso Manchego at Jaleo by José Andrés?

Plato de queso Manchego

A standard order of the Plato de Queso Manchengo costs $16. Guests can also order a larger sampler-style version with additional cheese and accompaniments.

Manchego is an unpasteurized sheep’s milk cheese. Most consider it to have a nutty taste, complemented by a tangy flavor. Manchego cheese is a traditional Spanish cheese made from the milk of Manchega sheep, native to the La Mancha region. It is known for its firm texture, buttery flavor, and distinctive herringbone pattern on the rind.

Manchego is typically aged between 60 days and two years, with older cheeses offering a more intense, nutty taste. Its ivory-colored interior has small, uneven holes and a rich, slightly tangy aroma. Manchego pairs well with Spanish wines, olives, and cured meats, making it a popular choice on tapas plates. As a protected designation of origin (PDO) product, only cheese from La Mancha can be called Manchego.

We love Manchego cheese, especially from Jaleo. It offers a sharp, robust flavor. If you love sheep ‘s-milk cheese, this is a must‑try. It offers satisfying sharpness and rich depth. Manchengo cheese is Ideal with a crisp Spanish white wine, such as Albariño, or a light Tempranillo, which enhances the fruity and nutty notes.

Confusion at Jaleo Disney Springs

Jaelo Disney Springs

However, we understand why diners would be upset seeing the plate (plato) come out with several slices of cheese and some mild breadsticks as their appetizer. We can debate whether guests should read the menu descriptions more carefully. Nevertheless, this confusion sometimes still happens.

We recently ordered this as part of the all-you-care-to-eat promotion. We selected the Plato de queso Manchego to start since we knew it would be easy to prepare. This allowed it to arrive at our table quickly.

The cheese flavor set the tone for our meal nicely. The small breadsticks created balance as we expected. The unique cheese flavor, which many United States citizens may be unfamiliar with, makes a pleasant start to a meal at Jaleo by José Andrés at Disney Springs. While we question the $16 price point, guests can upgrade to a type of charcuterie board for an additional charge. The Plato de queso Manchego makes a great starter to your dining experience at Jaleo by José Andrés.

Of course, this will not qualify as a meal on its own. With tapas-style dining, guests can expect to order several menu items and likely share them during the meal.
