Kevin Feige walked onto the D23 stage in Anaheim on Friday and did the thing every mutant-adjacent nerd on the planet has been bracing for since Spider-Man: Brand New Day quietly outed Sadie Sink as Jean Grey: he confirmed the full cast of Marvel Studios’ MCU reboot of X-Men. It’s a lineup that suggests the House of Ideas isn’t just dipping a toe into the mutant pool. They’re doing a cannonball.
X-Men MCU Cast Revealed
Sink returns as Jean Grey, a role Feige teased will anchor the entire film, calling it “Jean Grey’s story” in classic Marvel-doesn’t-give-you-the-whole-plot fashion. She’s joined by Kit Connor as Scott Summers, better known to three generations of comic readers as Cyclops, and by Christopher Abbott stepping into Charles Xavier’s shoes (and presumably his hoverchair, eventually).
Samara Weaving is Emma Frost, which means somewhere a costume department is already having a very long conversation about diamond-form VFX budgets. Inde Navarrette rounds out the team as Rogue, and Maya Boyd steps in as Storm, a role with a legacy so heavy (hello, Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp) that Boyd inherits equal parts opportunity and pressure.
Mister Sinister
Also, then there’s the heel turn nobody saw coming, at least not this specifically: Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. If you needed proof that Marvel is taking the villain seriously, casting an actor who’s played Kylo Ren, a modern update of Hamlet-adjacent brooding, and now a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA is about as loud a statement as it gets.
The film is directed by Jake Schreier, fresh off Thunderbolts*,with a script by Michael Lesslie. Marvel has set X-Men for a May 5, 2027 release, which gives us plenty of time to speculate about Wolverine, Beast, and whichever Hellfire Club member gets announced next.
