Don’t Touch That Dial! We Have More Details About H.R. Bloodengutz Halloween Horror Nights 2026
The fog is rolling into Universal Studios Florida for the 35th anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Orlando Resort has officially dropped new details on the HHN 2026 Bloodengutz House. This was the fourth of the ten houses announced for Halloween Horror Nights 206 Orlando.
Who Is H.R. Bloodengutz? A Quick Lore Refresher

For long-time HHN fans, the name Larry Kurtzberg, better known by his horror host moniker H.R. Bloodengutz, evokes pure nostalgic horror. Bloodengutz first debuted at Halloween Horror Nights 21 in 2011’s fan-favorite house H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror. In the original backstory:
- The 1970s Fall: Larry was the host of WKNB’s Midnight Horror Show. When his ratings plummeted after showing increasingly gory films, the station producer canceled his show.
- The Revenge: Kurtzberg snapped, kidnapped his producer, held him hostage, and broadcast a blood-soaked holiday movie marathon live on air.
- The Aftermath: Bloodengutz was arrested and sent away to Carey Penitentiary for life.
The HHN 2026 Bloodengutz House Storyline: 15 Years Later
Fast-forward 15 real-world (and lore-world) years to HHN 35:
- The Prison Break: H.R. Bloodengutz has broken out of Carey Penitentiary on Halloween Day!
- The Abandoned Studio: He returns directly to the WKNB television studio. Because the studio was shut down and boarded up immediately after his 2011 arrest, it’s a frozen-in-time crime scene complete with shoddy, outdated 1970s broadcast equipment.
- The New Movie Marathon: Bloodengutz is back to air the straight-to-TV Halloween B-movies he never got to show 15 years ago.
According to Halloween Horror Nights Show Director Ramon Paradoa and Scenic Designer Nick Collins, the goal for this HHN 2026 Bloodengutz house was to create “Halloween comfort food”—leaning heavily into classic textures, cozy fall vibes, and retro horror nostalgia.
“We were talking about this idea of doing a haunted house that was Halloween comfort food — [one] that really leans into the textures and the feel and the vibes of Halloween,” says Ramon. “And then at some point in the process, the idea of continuing H.R. Bloodengutz’ story came up, and then we kind of married those two ideas and it was off to the races from there.”
“We’d always wanted to bring him back, it just never seemed like the right time,” adds Nick. “And then it all kind of dovetailed in to be perfect for an anniversary year.”
What to Expect Inside the HHN 2026 Bloodengutz House
1. Seven B-Movie Horror Scenes
Guests will walk through a seven-movie marathon, stepping into the films themselves. Between movie transitions, guests will pass through living rooms in Carey, Ohio, filled with Easter eggs hinting at the next movie. Highlights confirmed by the design team include:
- “The Grayscale Graveyard”: A fully black-and-white zombie movie set in a cemetery on Halloween night. Costumes, scenic elements, and makeup will create an immersive grayscale illusion.
- “Monster’s Night Out”: A horror-tiki crossover set inside a vibrant, retro tiki bar populated by sea monsters and creatures.
- Throwback Callbacks: Two of the featured B-movies will explicitly reference past Halloween Horror Nights events and classic lore.
“The idea is that you’re traveling through different living rooms in Carey, Ohio,” reveals Ramon. “And in the decor that you’re seeing in these living room snapshots, there are little Easter eggs and nods to the film that’s coming.”
“One of our favorite films to turn into a scene was ‘The Grayscale Graveyard,’” shares Ramon. “We knew we wanted to do a black and white zombie film set in a graveyard on Halloween night, which proved to be a fun challenge for our design teams to bring to life. Guests will feel fully immersed in a grayscale environment, as the scenic, decor, costuming and makeup all lean into this thematic!”
“The ‘Monster’s Night Out’ scene was a particularly fun one to work on because it’s a tiki bar,” adds Nick. “There’s such a cool crossover between horror and tiki culture, and we hope the fans will enjoy our take on it. An incredible mix of technical and art disciplines worked together to make the scene feel like a place you’d want to hang out in!”
2. Original Actor & Brand-New Queue Video
One of the best pieces of news for HHN purists: the original 2011 actor is returning to reprise his role as H.R. Bloodengutz! Guests in the queue will see a brand-new video pre-show featuring an older, more unhinged Bloodengutz. He will be wearing a hybrid of his Carey Penitentiary prison jumpsuit combined with remnants of his classic TV host costume. Joined by two fellow escaped convicts acting as his “production assistants,” he’ll introduce each flick before you step through the screen.
“Shortly after the events of the first haunted house, the studio went under and was left abandoned,” explains Ramon. “So when [Bloodengutz] returns to re-engage the studio and present this new marathon, he’s having to kind of work with the old, shoddy equipment and piece it together as much as he can.”
“It’s a crime scene,” adds Nick. “It hasn’t been touched since the day he was arrested, so they’ve boarded it up. The night we’re going in is the first night anyone has been in — it’s like a time capsule.”
