Planning a trip? Disney World cashless food carts mean you can pay by card or mobile wallet, but not cash. Here’s what you need to know.

Walt Disney World is rolling out cashless snack and food carts across its parks. Guests visiting Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios may notice “Cashless Location” signage, meaning these carts accept payment by credit/debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, or mobile wallets—but not cash. We did not visit Epcot during our most recent visit, so we cannot confirm the “Cashless” situation there.

This shift is part of Disney’s ongoing push to streamline the guest experience and enhance its digital ecosystem. Of course, it could also be a desperate move to avoid any loss of revenue with cash disappearing or being lost. While table-service and quick-service restaurants still accept cash, many snack stands are now fully digital. Additionally, this move happened seemingly overnight, starting on the same day that Walt Disney World raised prices across the resort.

Example of United Parks Going Cashless

Some time ago, SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay went totally cashless. United Parks & Resorts, the parent company of SeaWorld and Busch Gardens, has transitioned all its U.S. parks to entirely cashless operations. This change is aimed at providing a faster, more secure, and convenient experience for guests.

Visitors can pay using credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay across the parks, including for tickets, dining, and merchandise. For those with only cash, cash-to-card kiosks are available free of charge. These kiosks convert cash into a prepaid Visa debit card, which can be used both inside and outside the parks, ensuring no guest is left unable to make a purchase. For the record, we have not seen or heard any sign that Walt Disney World will be adding kiosks to convert cash to cards like at United Parks. However, the Walt Disney World cashless food and beverage cart change has only been going on for one whole day.

Advantages for Disney and Guests

  • Faster transactions: Card and mobile payments speed up lines at high-traffic kiosks.
  • Less handling of cash: Reduces operational complexity and improves security.
  • Better insights: Digital transactions provide data for inventory and promotions.

Potential Challenges

  • Technical outages: If digital systems go down, card-only carts could temporarily be inaccessible.
  • Guest adjustment: Some visitors prefer cash, especially international travelers.
  • Inclusivity: Guests without cards or digital wallets may face limitations.

How to Prepare

  1. Bring a credit/debit card or Disney Gift Card
Cash is no longer accepted at these snack carts, so a card or mobile wallet is essential.
  2. Have backup digital options
Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a second card ensures you can always make a purchase.
  3. Check signage before queuing
Look for the “Cashless Location” indicator to avoid surprises.
  4. Ask Cast Members for guidance
They can direct you to nearby carts or provide tips on payment methods.

Walt Disney World Cashless Kiosks: What This Means for Theme Parks

Walt Disney World’s move signals a broader industry trend: theme parks are increasingly favoring digital payments to streamline operations and collect data. While this makes transactions faster and safer, parks must balance efficiency with guest accessibility.
