We tried the Chicken Pesto Panini at Aquatica Orlando. Discover why this grilled sandwich, featuring pesto aioli and arugula, mostly impressed us. In other words, a Chicken Pesto Panini walked into a water park…and may have won lunch.

Theme park food has a bit of a reputation. Somewhere between a soggy hot dog and a pretzel the size of your regrets, expectations are usually low. But every once in a while, something comes along that surprises you—not in a “what did I just eat?” kind of way, but in a “wait… was that actually good?” kind of way. Enter: The Chicken Pesto Panini from Kura’s Beachside Panini at Aquatica Orlando.
First, a little context…
Aquatica Orlando is SeaWorld’s water park sibling—less about the shows, more about the splash. It’s where you go to slide down seven-story water coasters, float in lazy rivers, and try not to lose your sunglasses in a wave pool that hits harder than your student loan notifications. With tropical vibes, bright colors, and an oddly aggressive number of flamingo statues, Aquatica feels like someone turned a Jimmy Buffett song into a real place.
Kura’s Beachside Panini at Aquatica Orlando

Tucked between watery thrills and strategically placed sprays of water on the sidewalks lies Kura’s Beachside Panini, a counter-service spot that dares to serve sandwiches with actual ambition. This quick-service dining location does not open every day. When it opens for business, it usually opens at 11:00 a.m. or noon and closes around 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
On a recent visit, after our group conquered several slides, developed one sunburn, and consumed exactly 1.5 pretzels, we decided to give the Chicken Pesto Panini a try. This happened mainly because it had the word “pesto” in it, which felt fancy for a place where half the people were wearing water shoes. Now, we know what you’re thinking. “Panini? In a bathing suit? That’s a choice.” And you’re not wrong. But here’s the thing: it kind of works.
Chicken Pesto Panini at Aquatica Orlando Review

The Chicken Pesto Panini is a warm, pressed sandwich made with grilled chicken breast, provolone cheese, arugula, and pesto aioli on toasted ciabatta. It is, on paper, the kind of sandwich you’d expect to find in a quaint café—possibly served by someone with a latte art mustache—not next to a building blasting steel drum music at full volume. This costs $15.49 before any potential discounts are applied. Still, here we are.

The ciabatta could have been the MVP of this sandwich. However, the bread was a bit hard in places. Of course, it needs to be sturdy to support this style of sandwich. Some guests will find the panini to be too “bready.” The grilled chicken was surprisingly juicy for a theme park meal. Even if it was not, it tasted like a human being had cooked it, not just steamed in sadness behind a heat lamp. In fairness, these paninis are pre-made, ready for when guests order them so that we may have gotten lucky.
Pesto Aioli: To Be or Not to Be

The pesto aioli was flavorful and generous without being overwhelming. It gave the sandwich a bright, herby kick that said, “Sure, you’re at a water park, but you’re also a person of culture.” The provolone cheese… well, it was there. Not melted enough to be dramatic, but it gave a mild, gooey texture that rounded things out. Honestly, provolone is the introvert of cheeses. It’s not loud, but it gets the job done.
And then there was the arugula—bold choice for a water park sandwich. we appreciated the effort to add some leafy sophistication, but after 90-degree heat and a little time under the panini press, it went from “peppery and fresh” to “vaguely seaweedy.” However, it didn’t ruin the sandwich like our experience at SeaWorld Orlando with the Caprese Panini. Still, it did seem like it was struggling to remember who it was.
Portion Size of Chicken Pesto Panini

Additionally, the portion size of the sandwich deserves praise. This could be shared if you do that sort of thing. However, the $15.49 price tag does not include chips. Additionally, this panini avoids becoming greasy, a common issue with quick-service paninis.
Still, overall? This was a good sandwich. Like, “I would eat this again,” good. In fact, we’re considering going back to Aquatica Orlando for a day of sun and trying the Cuban Panini from Kura’s beachside Panini. It was filling without being heavy, flavorful without being overly salty, and definitely a step above most grab-and-go options in a swimsuit-friendly environment. In fact, it’s one of the few theme park meals you won’t immediately regret 30 minutes later while floating down the lazy river, clutching your stomach and questioning life choices.

Now, we won’t pretend it’s a gourmet masterpiece. It’s still a theme park sandwich. You’re not going to write home about it (unless you’re us, writing this blog). But in a sea of burgers, fries, and aggressively neon Dippin’ Dots, the Chicken Pesto Panini dares to be… decent. And sometimes, in the land of sunburns and $6 sodas, “decent” tastes like a five-star feast.

So next time you’re at Aquatica Orlando, tired, hungry, and considering whether that footlong hot dog or flatbread pizza will ruin your ability to climb the stairs to KareKare Curl—take a detour to Kura’s. Order the Chicken Pesto Panini. Sit down, dry off, and let your taste buds ride a very chill wave of mild sophistication. And yes—get extra napkins. Pesto is a clingy friend.
